Job Summary

The Patient Service Attendant and will be responsible for contributing to patient care by providing basic patient support and for assisting with indirect care tasks. Duties include:

Assist patients with activities of daily living including proper hygiene care including ambulation, toileting, bathing and personal hygiene functions under the direction of Regulated Health Professionals (RHP).

Assist with tray set-up and feeding of patients as directed by a RHP, opening packages, making patient comfortable, feeding when necessary and documenting food consumption

Provide one-to-one constant patient care as required for at risk patients by direct observation in or outside the patient room

Assist patients adapt to the use of various assistive devices.

Answer call lights and perform various patient care duties and related social activities necessary in meeting patient’s personal needs and comfort and documenting as required

Provide physical assistance to patients as required by assisting with lifts and transfers, as directed by a RHP

Provide portering and transportation services for patients and supplies.

Participate with team members in the patient care planning process and in the development and implementation of quality-based initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

Grade 12 education or equivalent as recognized by the Province on Ontario, Ministry of Education

Health Care Aide (HCA) or Personal Support Worker (PSW) diploma certificate from a recognized program approved by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities or current Nursing Students within their 3rd or 4th year of study or equivalent related experience in an acute care setting

Current certification in Basic Lifesaver, Basic Rescuer C or Heartsaver Plus required.

Knowledge of Best Practices for Prevention and Control of Infection in Health Care Settings.

Recent hospital experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated computer skills.

Proven ability to read, write, and follow verbal and written English instructions.

Demonstrates proficiency in written and verbal communications skills.

High level of attention to detail.

Able to meet the physical demands of the job with a tolerance for continuance walking, bending, twisting, pulling, pushing and lifting required.

Demonstrated ability to lift using equipment up to 50 kg required.

Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills.

Ability to prioritize workloads and manage stressful work environments.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and willingness to be flexible to meet department needs.

Demonstrated commitment to, and understanding of the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Hours of Work : In order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7. There is the expectation that you are available to work weekdays, weekends and all shifts (0600-1400 hours and 1400 to 2200 hours).
