About the Opportunity

Valley Regional Hospital (VRH) is seeking an orthopedic surgeon to join the team of seven to fill a 0.5 full-time equivalency (FTE) by job sharing with two others within a 2.0 FTE. The successful candidate will share the on-call rotation, existing current OR allocation at VRH, fracture clinic and Hip and Knee clinic as well as provide outpatient surgical care from the remote centers the orthopedic service travels to within the Western Zone. Practice will focus on primary hip and knee arthroplasty as well as some shoulder and knee arthroscopy along with general orthopedics.


VRH opened its doors to patients in 1992. The hospital serves the people of Kings and Annapolis Counties and provides specialty services as a referral centre for the Annapolis Valley and other areas of Western Nova Scotia. Located in Kentville, VRH is a 137 inpatient bed facility that provides inpatient, outpatient, and satellite care to approximately 80,000 residents.

Responsibilities

  • work as a full scope of practice orthopedic surgeon providing care to the patients within Western Zone
  • participate in call shifts
  • support Nova Scotia Health in advancing the delivery of orthopedic surgery care by liaising with the applicable staff within the zone and province
  • offer consultation support to Western Zone, which includes day-time coverage and occasional overnight/weekend coverage
  • be accountable to the patient population in Western Zone by providing clinics and occasional satellite clinics that will require travel
  • responsible to the Zone Surgery Department Head for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice
  • operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health

Qualifications

  • all applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • all specialists must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
  • membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
