Position Summary
The successful candidate will teach various OTA&PTA courses in the classroom (on-campus and virtual), OTA&PTA labs, and field settings. They will participate in program and course curriculum development, course modifications, program advisory committees, program accreditation, applied research initiatives, community outreach and ongoing future program needs. In addition to teaching assigned courses, the successful candidate will be expected to practice interpersonal communication and collaboration skills in interactions with students, faculty, management, colleagues from other colleges and universities, community members and other professionals in internal and external educational and practice settings.

Responsibilities

  • Teach using a variety of strategies to support student-centred learning
  • Demonstrate interpersonal communication and knowledge of cultural competency in interactions with the public, colleagues, other professionals, and students in internal and external educational and practice settings
  • Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment based on the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity
  • Work effectively in a team-based environment
  • Creating a positive learning environment that accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning preferences.
  • Use a variety of appropriate teaching/learning strategies
  • Effectively use educational and advanced technologies, and digital learning methodologies to enhance the student learning experience;
  • Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques
  • Develop, revise and adapt the appropriate learning resources for students
  • Engage students to create a positive teaching and learning environment. Utilize principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process.
  • Ensuring that course and program curriculum is current and relevant with a lens on the future.
  • Effectively use the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning to build a contemporary and evidence-based practice.
  • Critically examine learning materials and classroom instructional practice for discriminatory bias or barriers
  • Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment based on the principles of inclusion, equity, and diversity
  • Provide academic support to learners as required
  • Contribute as a subject matter expert to support curriculum development and revision
  • Maintain contacts with relevant industry and professional associations
  • Remain current in technical knowledge and instructional delivery techniques
  • Attends meetings, maintains records of student grades/assessments, and participates in meetings and activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities

Qualifications/Experience

  • Minimum Undergraduate Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
  • Five years of recent clinical experience in an active treatment setting
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Teaching or training experience at the adult or the post-secondary level
  • Evidence of scholarly work is an asset
  • Experience in the course or learning materials development, an asset
  • Demonstrated competent written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff and college community
