CGMH is an acute care hospital providing emergency care, diagnostic services including lab, imaging and cardio respiratory therapy, as well as two inpatient units (medicine and surgery). The Opportunity:

  • To provide patient focused assessment, intervention, and education to those affected by serious mental illness and or acute instability in a population of adolescent, adult and geriatric presentations
  • To provide timely triage, assessment and case management of treatable illness with a view to short term intervention and use of consultation.
  • The position requires familiarity with fundamental psychiatric presentations, medical co-morbidity and psychotherapy.

Qualifications:

  • Registration with an applicable regulatory body e.g. the College of Social Work and Social Services, College of Nurses, College of Occupational Therapists, College of Psychotherapists etc.
  • Minimum 4 years clinical experience in a mental health setting, including case management, and/or individual and group counselling.
  • Current CPR certification
  • Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act and Substitute Decision Maker Act
  • Knowledge of the DSM IV
  • Sound assessment skills with regards to physical assessment, mental assessment and risk assessment.
  • Experience in the application of Mental Health Assessment Tools
  • Psycho Geriatric experience an asset.
  • Knowledge in Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Strengths Based Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy considered an asset.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of family Dynamics
  • Knowledge of pharmacology treatment of psychiatric disorders.
  • Knowledge of Regional Resources
  • Must strive to continuously provide a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff, physicians, and volunteers
  • Must adhere to the duties of workers, as stipulated in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Must have an ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) in the English language in order to provide excellent communication with team members, patients and families. Ability to communicate in additional language(s) is considered an asset.
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Must be dedicated to professional growth & development
  • Must be able to perform all bona fide and essential duties of the position, which may include physical demands such as moving/transferring patients, pushing, pulling, bending, etc.
  • Must have demonstrated excellent attendance/performance record
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with other members of the health care team
  • Preferred Masters level of education and registered with one of the following colleges; Social Work, Occupational Therapy and Nursing or a related field and registered as a Psychotherapist.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessment based on accepted current mental health standards
  • Initiate appropriate intervention, which may involve short- or long-term therapy and treatment, case consultation, engagement and production of Shared Care with family medicine, facilitation of psychiatric, addiction or forensic referral and involvement with primary care and social service supports.
  • Work comfortably with pharmacological intervention as warranted.
  • Maintain the clinical record in accordance with clinic policy and regulatory college requirements.
  • Consult with family physicians and circle of care as appropriate regarding psychiatric care and system coordination
  • Liaise with long term care, retirement homes and hospital, medical and social service agencies.
  • Assume an active role as member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Active participation in training, education and clinical supervision.
  • Participate in quality improvement exercises
  • Perform duties as may be assigned by Leadership.
  • To exhibit the ethics required of members of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario
  • To work in a manner consistent with the values of Collingwood General & Marine Hospital

Hours of Work: 7.5-hour days, Weekdays Please be reminded that as a Hospital, in order to provide the necessary patient care, our operations run 24/7. Therefore, depending on the program for which you are applying, it may be an expectation that you are available to work weekdays and weekends, as well as all shifts - days, evenings, and nights.


Wage: $40.23 to $49.48 per hour
