Mental Health Division Lead

Full Time – 1.0 FTE

Duties to Commence: As soon as possible until June 28, 2024

Position Description:

This position is connected to the Mental Health in Schools Pilot grant from the Government of Alberta, designed to support the mental health needs for students in the Division. This position has been designed to build capacity among staff, by developing and leading professional learning opportunities for each employee group – teachers, educational assistants, school leaders, teacher-counsellors, and other support staff groups. This position will also develop and implement researched based strategies to address the mental health needs of students throughout the Division. The successful candidate must be a certificated teacher, demonstrate leadership qualities and have formal training and/or experience in providing social/emotional supports for students.

This position will be based out of St. Albert and will be required to travel to all 18 school sites in our Division communities – St. Albert, Morinville, and Legal. The Mental Health Division Lead will have to be flexible in the hours of work, depending upon the needs of the community, the work may be before/after school hours or in the evening and possible weekends.

Qualifications:

  • A degree in education and certification from Alberta Education
  • Related education in psychology, counselling, mental health and wellness, or other related training is considered an asset

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Committed to being a model and witness to Christ-centered education values and beliefs.
  • Apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students, and support the Division’s goals towards advancing Truth and Reconciliation
  • Familiar with the developmental, educational, emotional, social and recreational needs of children, youth and families
  • Experience with delivering programming and comfortable with public speaking
  • Strong relationship-building skills
  • Effective time management skills
  • Takes initiative and is able to work independently as well as in teams
  • Skill and knowledge of facilitation, positive communication and creative thinking
  • Solid comprehension and practice of personal and professional boundaries
  • Ability to develop supportive relationships with young people
  • Creative problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Comfortable liaising with community members, school staff, community agencies and healthcare providers
  • Community collaboration/networking skills
  • Knowledge of the local community and resources available
  • Capable of maintaining program statistics for purposes of evaluation and assisting in evaluating the effectiveness of programs
  • Resilience and a commitment to personal development
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office programs and working knowledge of social media
  • The successful candidate must provide a current criminal record check (dated within 6 months of the date of hire)
  • The successful candidate must provide proof of licensure or registration with the approved Alberta regulatory college, prior to commencing duties where applicable:
  • Regulated health professions under the Alberta Health Professions Act and Health Disciplines Act will be required to show an original copy of a valid practice permit before commencing their duties
  • Other professions governed by government acts, college or regulatory body requirements may be required to provide additional documentation.
