We acquire, preserve, research, communicate, and exhibit in the fields of transportation, aviation, agriculture, and industry.


Role

You will coordinate and grow the Volunteer Program at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum. The volunteer program is crucial to the successful year-round and daily operation of the museum, providing support to visitor services, restoration, curatorial and administration. You will manage an average of 300 volunteers who contribute more than 10,000 volunteer hours yearly. Reporting to the Head, Visitor Services, you will be involved in all aspects of the museum's daily operations and regularly liaise with staff and contractors.


The Coordinator, Communications and Volunteer Resources supports outreach to the Museum's community partners via a variety of digital communication tools. This communications role provides key technical expertise and direction on social media strategies in a rapidly evolving digital space. Working with the Head, Marketing and Communications, you will develop content strategies for both video, image and text on all social platforms.


Key Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:


  • Develop, implement, build, and evaluate the volunteer program
    • Ensure that the roles for volunteers are identified in all the main areas of the museum
    • Develop volunteer job descriptions and establish formal and consistent recruitment process to effectively place volunteers in the museum environment.
    • Effectively screen, orient, place, supervise and recognize volunteers.
    • Ensure museum staff are aware of and trained for the responsibilities of supervising volunteers.
    • Work with staff to determine where additional volunteer support would benefit museum operations.
  • Develop communication strategies, content, and engage with the museum's social media communities such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages
  • Actively participate in the development and delivery of annual and special events at the museum
  • Oversee the collection and analysis of volunteer data and participate on the Division's Volunteer Committee

Qualifications

University Degree in a related field (Museum Studies, Volunteer Management, Communications, or Arts) and two years of progressively responsible related experience in volunteer management, museology, communications, social media, development and operations of heritage facilities and programs. Equivalencies of related experience or education may be considered on a one-for-one basis.


Requirements


  • Familiarity with the various disciplines involved in volunteer management
  • Expertise in the use of volunteer management tools, preferably Better Impact
  • Experience with developing, formatting, and loading content on a variety of social media platforms
  • Proven track record in developing strong, successful working relationships, consultative and collaborative partnerships with stakeholders with efficient and effective results
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with event planning

Salary

$2,588.06 to $3,397.76 bi-weekly ($67,548 - $88,681/year)

Notes

Hours of work are 36.25 hours weekly, with some required weekends and stat holidays
