Position Summary:
A Yard Associate is committed to achieving Northumberland Building Materials Ltd.’s service standards and maximizing sales and service while providing the customers with the best shopping experience possible. The Yard Associate will develop and maintain effective services and operations of the yard as designated by the Yard Manager.

Location: This position is at the RONA store in Port Hope, Ontario.

Duties and Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Build strong and lasting relationships with our retail, professional, and contractor customers
  • Builds loads for delivery, loads orders into customer vehicles, assists with maintenance of yard and warehouse
  • Provides accurate and timely deliveries in a proactive manner
  • Makes sure that the delivery vehicles are clean inside and out
  • Checks each load going out for accuracy at time of load building
  • Follows up to ensure completion of all tasks with effective communication.
  • Assist in preventative maintenance programs
  • Ensures proper and safe handling and storage of inventory products to minimize any damage
  • Works together with all team members to help get all tasks completed in a timely manner
  • Possible directing operations in the Yard Manager’s absence; opening or closing the yard locking and shutting down the facilities.
  • Maintains Northumberland Building Material Ltd yard standards, commitment to service and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Positive attitude when dealing with both customers and co-workers
  • Has a high sense of urgency and drive; able to set priorities and deliver results within deadlines
  • Exemplary listening, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management and problem-solving skills
  • Basic math skills are required
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Physically demanding. Use of ladders and lifting techniques when required. Medium and heavy lifting is a major component of this position
  • Flexible availability based on store needs (position includes evenings and weekends)
  • Knowledge of the building construction industry; trends, products, application techniques and projects an asset
  • Retail experience in the hardware and contractor industry an asset
  • First aid trained is an asset
  • Valid Driver’s License
