My employer, Integrated Health Clinic, has a fantastic opportunity for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The Clinic is growing and we are looking to add a new LPN to our Team!

IHC has been in business for over 20 years. With two locations to serve its patients. The clinic(s) provides a science-based naturopathic medical approach for patients seeking choice in their health care.

OBJECTIVE

This position is based in White Rock, but requires to work at both Locations, White Rock and Fort Langley.

The LPN ensures that the patients’ prescribed therapies and lab testing are performed in a disciplined, friendly, professional and discreet manner. They conducts medical laboratory tests, experiments, and analyses to assist in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of illness in accordance with the doctor’s instructions and following established lab protocols. The LPN must collaborate with physicians and lab technician members to provide physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families, supervising assigned team members.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Prepare blood, urine, and other bodily fluids samples for testing
  • Prepare tissue sections to demonstrate special cellular tissue elements or other characteristics for microscopic examination
  • Conduct quality control assessment of testing techniques, and problem-solve administrative situations as they arise.
  • Perform phlebotomies, change IV bags infusing via peripheral access (not central venous access)
  • Monitor clients receiving blood or blood products in a team nursing approach
  • Provide care to clients receiving parenteral nutrition
  • May supervise and train another medical laboratory technical staff
  • Describe all IV recipes and the differences and benefits of each
  • Keep accurate EMR records for all provided services, and maintain strict patient confidentiality
  • Draw blood quickly and accurately with people of all ages, and work under stressful situations
  • Administer IVs, correctly position probe and begin the LRHT in accordance with prescribed protocol
  • Perform PCR testing in accordance with assigned protocols, methods, or procedures
  • Effectively find veins in patients who are not well and have vein issues
  • Manage a variety of testing specimens at the same time and maintain the integrity of all
  • Administer numerous IV therapies within a busy lab schedule
  • Ability to manage lab shipping requirements for both local and international shipments. Prepare all test specimens for shipping with time sensitivity for courier pick up
  • Administer non-IV medications ie. Glutathione, B12 vitamin, other IM and SQ injections
  • Review treatment schedule and confirm required IVs and associated supplies have been prepared
  • Ensure the treatment room is clean, tidy and in every respect ready for the patient
  • Prior to each treatment, must review the patient’s file to get familiarized with the individual requirements of the patient and all treatment specific
  • Must attend to pre-treatments meds, mistletoe injection, etc.
  • Greet patients, conduct patient briefings and ensure they are comfortable with the treatment(s) being administered. Throughout the treatment, one must check on the patient and attend to the patient’s needs
  • Accurately make IV recipe bags at the beginning of each shift in the morning.
  • Upon completion of treatment, must assist patient as necessary and provide completed Treatment Chit
  • Maintain all lab safety, sanitation, and sterilization requirements ie. gloves, sinks, food & drinks and waste
  • Coordinate general cleaning requirements, including laundry
  • Work cooperatively with other lab personnel, cover lunch and break times when required
  • Must participate in all staff and lab meetings

REQUIREMENTS

  • 3 to 5 years of working experience as LPN in Canada
  • Completion of a vocational, college or other approved program for licensed practical nurses is required.
  • Registration with a regulatory body is an asset
  • Phlebotomy Certificate is consider an asset
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing is an asset
  • Clinical Skills, Bedside Manner, Infection Control, Nursing Skills, Physiological Knowledge
  • Able to administer Medication, Medical Teamwork, Multi-tasking, Listening
  • Excellent Verbal Communication, Health Promotion and Maintenance
  • Must have sound working knowledge and adherence to professional medical protocols.
  • Ability to convey professionalism through image and communication (appropriate scrubs, hygiene, scent-free, hair away from face, medical shoes, no foul language).
  • Ability to maintain effective, strong and respectful working relationships with coworkers, doctors, associates, clerical staff and management.
  • Ability to effectively resolve conflicts with patients and coworkers and adhere to Patient Complaints and Patient Incident procedures.
  • Ability to problem-solve issues as they arise in the lab and willingness to maintain currency of knowledge through ongoing professional development

Patient Care

  • Must be able to handle numerous patients with diverse needs at one time.
  • Ability to work quickly and carefully with children.
  • Ability to explain all test kits, procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to communicate patient needs with appropriate practitioners where necessary.

IV Recipes and Therapies

  • Must have sound working knowledge of add-on remedies prescribed for injection to bags.
  • Must have sound working knowledge of all IV recipes and convey benefits of each for explanation to patients.
  • Ability to work in close quarters and maintain watch over all IV patients at the same time.
  • Ability to administer long (Chelation) and short (Myers) duration IVs and stay on schedule.

Lab Administration

  • Must have sound working knowledge of lab structure and organization.
  • Must have sound working knowledge of all lab opening and closing procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate admin activities during slow times and for monthly duties.
