    Full time permanent position for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Itinerant (Shared between A P Low; Menihek; and J R Smallwood). Duties to commence September 5, 2023.

    The itinerant teacher provides both direct instruction and consultation for students who are deaf or hard of hearing (birth to high school graduation) and works collaboratively with the school based or early childhood teams. This position requires both daily travel and the ability to work in a variety of settings. This position reports to the Provincial Director of Programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

    Staff will engage a blended service delivery model encompassing both direct service and virtual services as required.

    Requirements

    • A high Level of American Sign Language is preferred.

    • Successful completion of American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) may be required.

    • Valid Newfoundland and Labrador Teacher Certification

    • Masters degree in Education of Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing or equivalent

    • Competency to teach the Developmental Skills Inventory for students who are Deaf or hard of hearing

    • Experience working with students who are Deaf or hard of hearing, including those with multiple exceptionalities

    • Experience teaching in a variety of settings (e.g., school, home, early learning centers)

    • Experience working in a virtual learning environment

    • Knowledge of assistive technology and hearing devices

    • Competence in listening and spoken language development

    • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, including birth to high school graduation

    • Experience with assessment, writing effective goals, program planning and delivery of instruction

    • Ability to work collaboratively with all team members

    • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

    • Good organizational/time management skills

    • Ability to document and maintain records and student files

    • Valid driver’s license and regular travel with personal vehicle; may require overnight stays

    Offer of employment is conditional upon the completion of all applicable background checks and confirmation of credentials, the results of which must be satisfactory to NLESD.

    Salary: In accordance with the NLTA Agreement.

    Minimum Qualifications: Masters Degree in Education for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing or equivalent

    Benefits for positions in which the teacher resides in a Labrador community include:

    • Labrador Benefits - Labrador and Travel Allowances (details in “Working with the District Presentation” below)

    • Coastal Labrador Supplement - For teachers residing in certain coastal communities only. The value of this supplement is $5,000 (prorated depending on start of position), payable in two installments (December and June). To be eligible for this supplement, teachers must be on a full-time continuing contract and must reside in the community for the duration of the contract period. Locations for Coastal Labrador Supplement include Nain; Hopedale; Makkovik; Postville; Rigolet; Black Tickle; Cartwright; Charlottetown; Mary’s Harbour; Pinsent’s Arm; Port Hope Simpson; St. Lewis; Mud Lake
