Laporte is looking to fill the following position for the Burnaby office.

Intermediate Control Systems Technologist – Burnaby, BC

The Senior Control Systems Technologist will join the Western Canada Electrical and Controls team and report to the Lead Electrical Engineer. They will be asked to perform the following:

Responsibilities:

• Assisting with engineering design, procurement, implementation and commissioning of automated manufacturing processes, for greenfield or brownfield projects of varying size and complexity;
• Assisting in mentoring engineers, technologists, and designers;
• Developing equipment, motor, instrumentation and IO lists, bills of materials, control strategies, control panel and PLC layouts, functional, instrumentation loop and PLC IO diagrams;
• Configuring, and troubleshooting PLC and HMI hardware and other “smart” devices (VFD’s, instrumentation, etc.);
• Developing, supporting, and troubleshooting PLC, HMI, datalogging and reporting applications;
• Specifying and procuring instrumentation, control panels, equipment skid systems, and MCCs;
• Taking part in the development of proposal, engineering and construction cost estimates and schedules;
• Implementing and tracking specific equipment or systems modifications adhering to established change control procedures.

Key Requirements:

• Graduation with a technical diploma (B. Tech.) with a focus on electrical power and control systems and registration as or eligibility for registration as a CET or AScT;
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in engineering consulting;
• Professional work experience in engineering consultancy in the agri-food, pharmaceutical or food and beverage industries (other industry may be considered depending on skills and experience); Familiarity with food safety an asset.

Technical Skills and Proficiencies:

• Proficient with at least three of the leading control system platforms (Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens, DeltaV, etc.);
• Proficient with at least two of the leading HMI applications platforms (Factory Talk, Ignition, Simatic, etc.);
• Proficient in the sizing, selecting, configuring and commissioning motor starters, soft starters and VFDs;
• Knowledge of local, Provincial and National regulations and standards related to electrical design;
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, and /or Eplan an asset.
