We are currently seeking an Instrumentation Technician to join our team. This is a Full time Permanent position based at our Touquoy mine in Middle Musquodoboit. Reporting to the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, your primary responsibility is to maintain and take advantage of optimizing opportunities in the mill related to availabilities, costs or reliability. To help in the development of Safe Work Procedures and development of the Planned Maintenance program, as well as all tasks assigned by Electrical Maintenance Supervisor.

The Opportunity

  • Ability to perform repairs, order material and train/mentor apprentices with the maintenance, replacement, and installation of equipment.
  • Installing, programming, and calibrating new equipment (rebuild as needed) and evaluate latest technologies for feasibility and efficiencies.
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance, installation, and repair of activities of electrical and instrumentation systems as required.
  • Setting set points on safety shutdown device(s) & should be able to complete calibrations unattended in most situations.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and conducting periodic calibration of instruments on a wide range of equipment including analysers, PLC and process control equipment, communication networks, environmental emission and data logging equipment and field monitoring equipment
  • Providing regular feedback to the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor on any issues that may arise.
  • Calibrating and maintaining components and instruments according to manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Interpreting and using appropriate CSA, ISA and API installation standards and practices.
  • Working with advanced meter(s) (e.g., HART capable process meters) checking for continuity, resistance, voltages and current readings.
  • Strong understanding and use of Instrumentation Test Equipment & will be able to complete calibrations unattended.
  • Able to work on Process equipment at Plant facilities such as Boilers, Separators, Line heaters, Compressors, VRU’s and other essential process equipment with little to no assistance
  • Using pneumatic, electrical and electronic testing devices to inspect and test instrument and system operation, diagnose faults and tubing
  • Practicing loss management principles.
  • Promoting a safe, efficient, and effective work culture focused on continuous improvement and achievement.
  • Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping throughout the maintenance workshops and wherever maintenance work is carried out, to contribute towards a safe work environment, efficient operation of the facilities and to reduce the risk of incidents or injury and the existence of potential hazards.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

  • Experience in fault finding and utilizing the appropriate diagnostic tools to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Hands-on, self-sufficient and demonstrates a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisors to ensure that projects are completed properly.
  • Valid Drivers License.
  • Ability to pass Background Check.
