The opportunity:

Under the general supervision of the Asst. Manager of Mechanical Shop, the Industrial Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, replacing, rebuilding, modifying, machining and/or fabricating parts for mechanical equipment. The Industrial Mechanic's work also involves coordination (as applicable) with other trades to minimize interruption in equipment use.

  • Works on a wide-range of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Diagnoses irregularities and malfunctions of such machinery and equipment and replaces or repairs as required.
  • Cleans, adjusts and lubricates such machinery and equipment.
  • Advises when immediate shut down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporary continued operation will have no harmful effect.
  • Perform scheduled preventative and routine maintenance such as meter/gauge readings, visual inspections, bearing vibration analysis, belt tension inspection
  • Machines, brazes, welds and solders parts as required.
  • Erects, lines up and levels machinery and equipment.
  • Estimates time and material for specific jobs.
  • Maintains records as required, both paper and electronic.
  • Installs and commissions new equipment.
  • Use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

  • Must possess a valid Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Mechanic as issued by the Manitoba Department of Labour.
  • Must be qualified to operate lathes, milling machine, drill presses, brakes, surface grinders and all portable and stationary Machine Shop equipment.
  • Must have at least a Class 5 Driver's License valid in Manitoba.
  • At least five years of related experience is required.
  • Must be able to estimate costs of time and materials required for new installations or repairs to existing systems or equipment.
  • Must be able to read blue prints, schematics and understand technical language and manuals.
  • Must have the knowledge and ability to repair various types of equipment safely and properly.
  • Must possess effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must demonstrate initiative, reliability and the ability to work independently and in a safe manner.
  • Capable of performing the duties as assigned.
  • Must be alert and thorough.
  • Will be required to provide acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Persons Registry checks.
