Overview
Reporting to the General Manager, Corporate Services, and providing manager level human resources support and guidance to Glen Stor Dun Lodge, the Human Resources Lead provides hands on problem solving and collaboration by walking around and meeting people where they work to understand and contribute to grass roots understanding of our valued residents, colleagues, and long-term care facility. As a leader who is responsible for setting the pace and example in progressive workplace culture, you will also know how to coach and develop others to a similar standard to ensure organizational learning. The ideal person will personify the values of integrity, trust, ethics, and values while being a relentless pursuer of self-development. The leader will also be responsible for assisting in creating an atmosphere conducive to realizing high levels of mental fitness and safety for all team members in ensuring the proper execution of the following:

  • As the human resources lead for the facility, the Lead will be the subject matter expert on implementing HR strategy within the Lodge; leading workforce planning protocols; creating adaptable and achievable recruitment strategies; ensuring mental fitness and physical safety within the facility; researching progressive workplace cultures and coordinating improvement activities in line with these findings; and being the champion of leader sourcing and succession planning within the facility.
  • With a “get out of my office” approach to building progressive culture and employee relations, the Lead will spend a lot of time with Lodge teams in their working environment to better understand the operations to contribute to a respectful and collaborative workplace.
  • Be an advanced communicator that delivers and receives information with all areas of the organization; with the capability to articulate and simplify complex items for innovative discussion and problem solving.
  • Creating and developing a work climate where mental health, respect for the individual, and self-development are acknowledged as critical success factors across all areas of the organization.
  • Using progressive and advanced collaboration and team building concepts, seek to build a relationship of mutual trust, respect and collaboration amongst all residents and staff within the facility.
  • Be the champion for the development and monitoring of the mental fitness and physical safety standards program ensuring not only the proper compliance to legislation and accreditation requirements; but with an aim of exceeding these with a “best in class” approach.
  • As a seasoned leader you will bring with you the proper skills and techniques in conducting workplace investigations, and accompanying reporting writing abilities, both formally and informally, to use these opportunities to contribute to the development of a progressive working culture.
  • Establish the effective and efficient administrative practices for the practical delivery of internal policies and processes.
  • Create and maintain strong relationships with residents, and colleagues with a focus on continuous improvement to processes and current service delivery.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • A seasoned professional with more than 7 years of progressive experience, and the accompanying relevant university education in a similar role in a unionized environment; with working knowledge of Lean methodology and or human resources metrics being an asset.
  • Advanced skillsets in the delivery of win-win problem solving, coaching for development, and providing constructive feedback with an equal understanding of how to use these tools in coordination of other formal performance instruments as required.
  • Core competencies for the position include: the ability to manage and measure work, having a business acumen, the ability to organize multi-disciplinary teams, inclusive decision making with required stakeholders, possessing managerial courage, being just and equal in the treatment of team members, and the ability to minimize negative conflict to build better situations where positive conflict may thrive.

The City of Cornwall offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The starting salary range for this position is $100,183.
