Health & Safety Specialist (Training Development)

Your Responsibilities

Reporting to the Superintendent, Health, Safety & Security you will provide expertise and support to operations by facilitating the identification of health, safety and environmental risks and controls to eliminate or mitigate these risks. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as a proactive change agent to create an ownership based HSSEQ culture
  • Provide subject matter expertise into the development, implementation, improvement and facilitation of health, safety, security, environmental and quality (HSSEQ) training programs and materials, including site orientation and related training. Will provide input into training content and support the development of computer based or e-learning HSSEQ training programs in coordination with the Training Department
  • Perform orientations on site (both in person and virtually), regularly update all orientation material and participate in developing and maintaining all orientation related materials and delivery methods
  • Manage and maintain the incident management system, including tracking incidents, generating and distributing reports and assigning investigations
  • Interface with operations, project, supervisory, corporate, contractor, consultants and visitors to ensure that HSSEQ standards are adhered to in the Bethune operation
  • Conducts HSSE audits and inspects the application and effectiveness of policies, standards, procedures and training programs in the field and coordinates recommendations, and assists in the development of corrective action plans in area owners
  • Participate and review investigations of incidents, ensuring effective investigations are conducted and preventive and corrective actions are developed
  • Assist/coach Contract Owners with requirements for contractor mobilization and management, including pre-mobilization requirements and execution plan review
  • Partner, coach, mentor, train and monitor health, safety and environment related performance employees and contractors
  • Be a technical resource in the event of emergencies or equipment failures
  • Maintain knowledge of current and leading practice workplace HSSEQ strategies, trends and technologies by developing industry working relationships, and participating in exchange groups, associations and committees to enable a culture of continual improvement
  • Participate in continuous educational and professional development, both internal and external as required by the position
  • Compile and maintain records associated with the responsibilities of the position

You

  • 5+ years of applied work experience focusing in HSSEQ training, preferably in a mining or industrial operations
  • Experience in project management including developing training programs
  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholder groups
  • Understanding of the Mines regulations, Employment Act, OHS Regulations, environmental regulations and other applicable codes and standards
  • CRSP or Certificate in Occupational Health is preferred
  • Experience with Articulate Storyline and Rise 360 a benefit
  • Must be authorized to legally work in Canada
  • Successful candidates must be eligible to travel outside of Canada as travel may be required
  • May be required to work staggered shifts, including weekend on-call
