Starting wage: $22.91/hour
Shift premium: $1/hr if the majority of the shift is after 4pm
35-hour workweek - set schedule of 5 days on, 2 consecutive days off.

We shape the daily experience of thousands of customers through the high-quality, healthy food we serve and every whole-hearted interaction we make. UBCO Food Services’ portfolio consists of 11 campus locations - a mix of franchises and in-house brands - with our newest dining hall opening in September 2021!
We are currently hiring a strong leader to join our team as a sessional First Cook – Team Lead. In partnership with the Executive Chef and Sous Chef, they oversee the day-to-day back-of-house operations, supervise and train staff, work an assigned line or station when required, handle administrative duties, and are an integral part of driving our fun, high-energy, professional team. Our First Cooks create a positive learning environment by providing coaching and feedback to employees to ensure operational excellence and improve overall location performance.
Please note that this position is ongoing full-time, sessional position (recurring yearly salaried contract). The anticipated first contract date begins immediately and is anticipated to end on April 30, 2023 with the possibility for extension.

- You have three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Duties:
- Participates in and oversees day-to-day production.
- Responsible for baking requirements for production.
- Works the assigned line or station when required.
- Assumes the responsibility of leading a kitchen team in a designated area.
- Supervises Second Cooks, Third Cooks and Kitchen Attendants.
- Provides training and direction to the kitchen in absence of a Sous Chef.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Grade 12 or equivalent, a certificate in cooking from a recognized cooking institution, Food Safe Level 1 Certificate and the completion of a Red Seal certification is required (or currently in the process of completing or looking to complete in the future). Three years related experience, including supervision of other staff or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
