Green Acres North is a 100 acre farm located in East Garafraxa with 30 rolling acres of horse pastures. In our twelve stall barn, we offer horse boarding to trail riding enthusiasts. We supply our own hay grown onsite, an outdoor arena, tack shed and multiple pastures.

We require a full time farm hand to assist with the day to day requirements of running an efficient and quiet horse farm. From the day to day chores, to using small machinery and tractors onsite to maintain the pastures. We require someone who is experienced with both horses, small machinery and tractors to help us continue to offer a well run horse farm.

Here are some of the key responsibilities and requirements of this role:

Horse Care:

· Putting horses into stalls in the evening and out in the morning

· Feeding horses hay in slow feeders, grain or supplements as necessary depending on each horse

· Maintaining clean, full water sources for all horses at all times

· Cleaning stalls daily

· Cleaning paddocks regularly

· Putting blankets, weather shields, fly masks, muzzles, etc on and off horses as per weather or owners requests

· Maintaining a clean and organized barn/sheds/outbarns continuously

· Keeping stock of hay/straw levels and quality in storage and reporting same to barn owner

· Checking on overall health and safety of horses daily and reporting any issues immediately to barn owners/horse owners

· Booking farrier on a regular basis and assisting same with their visits

· Facilitating and assisting any necessary veterinarian visits

· Reporting any requests from horse owners to barn owner

· Facilitating and assisting with Horse trailering upon arrival or exit of horses from farm

· Maintaining a balanced and safe dynamic amongst horses and altering pastures as needed

Farm Care:

· Maintaining a clean and well kept landscape in pastures and around house by lawn care and debris clean up regularly

· Repairing pasture fences and gates as required as soon as possible

· Painting, powerwashing, etc. barns/sheds seasonally as required

· Helping load, unload, stack and maintain safe storage of hay and straw seasonally

· Report any farm pest problems and come up with solutions for same

· Snow removal from driveways/laneways in the winter

· The use of small tractors, riding lawn mowers, push mowers, weed wacker, hedge trimmer, chainsaw, snowplow, tractors, truck, etc. as necessary

· Think critically about regularly occurring issues on the farm and notify barn owner of solutions to same

· Liaise with local farmers/distributors/maintenance workers when necessary

Required Experience:

· A minimum of 5 years experience with horse care

· Experience with small machinery (such as tractors/riding lawn mowers/ snow blowers, etc.)

· Proficiency in English

· Experience with small machinery repair an asset

Location:

Green Acres North is located in East Garafraxa, one line North of Orton. Approximately 20 minutes west of Orangeville, and 15 minutes South of Grand Valley or 15 minutes East of Fergus.
