What Does an Estimator Do?
Under the general supervision of the Senior Manager, Estimating and Contracts, you will be responsible for the preparation of cost estimates for conventionally bid projects and design build projects. Additionally, this role will involve direct contact with superintendents and project managers when developing and implementing projects.
As an Estimator, You Will:
- Bid estimation and preparation
- Examine construction drawings to extract required information to produce timely estimates used for quotations, as well as verify client invoices
- Project scheduling & coordination from start to completion
- Budget and cost accounting of all projects
- Accurately interpreting contract documents and providing a quality estimate for each project in keeping with how that project will most likely be constructed
- Assist with the continued development of the estimating system and database, prepare/review tender documents, provide detailed quantity take-offs, and cost control
- Attend estimating meetings
- Contract administration (contracts, insurance, and other required paperwork)
- Interact with the managers
What You'll Bring:
- A Civil Engineering Degree, Technologist or Technician will be considered an asset
- Heavybid, JDE, Heavyjob software experience considered an asset
- Minimum of 1-3 years experience in road, bridge, and infrastructure construction. MTO work is preferred
- Appreciation for a high level of quality standards is required
- Effective communication skills (written and verbal) with exceptional people management skills
- Able to interpret engineering construction drawings
- Significant understanding of Provincial Construction Safety regulations and proven record of accompanying project safety
- Complete understanding of job costing and accounting
- Valid G license with access to personal vehicle to support weekly travel to North Bay and Timmins
