SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Capital Asset, Capital Program, the Energy and Sustainability Coordinator , assists the Operations Team and Capital Asset Manager in Energy and Sustainable Projects and Training.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Building Performance

  • Identifies buildings best suited for energy retrofit projects.
  • Participates in the development of the building management plan.
  • Works closely with building technicians to ensure continuous commissioning and energy performance improvement of building systems.
  • Develops and maintain a building improvement tracking system.
  • Provides a venue for technicians to share experience.
  • Educates technicians in energy saving practices and technologies.
  • Reviews building performance reports.
  • Develops new practices to improve energy performance.
  • Implements and maintains sub-metering and measurement and verification systems.
  • Develops measurable energy and sustainability Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) jointly with SAIT.

Energy Savings Projects

  • Identifies opportunities for specific energy saving measures in buildings.
  • Recommends energy retrofit projects based on the results of the audits, re-commissioning process and carbon neutral studies.
  • Supports the project management team in the delivery of other projects that have an impact on energy consumption.
  • Monitors energy retrofit project performance and intervene when systems are under-performing.

Energy and Sustainability Reporting

  • Facilitates client, tenant communication and engagement.
  • Supports client with their energy and sustainability reporting needs.
  • Diagnoses energy consumption and cost variances in support of contact accounting teams.
  • Manages energy price escalation analysis, develop client utility budgets and provide cost variance explanations.
  • Develops and lead building energy saving committees at targeted facilities with the purpose of: Identifying, implementing, and tracking energy saving challenges and opportunities.

Utility Management Quality Assurance

  • Ensures the integrity of the utility data validation process, including optimization and operational requirements.
  • Identifies strategies and analytical processes to identify tariff optimization opportunities.

Energy Savings and Demand Side Management

  • Defines processes to identify, assess and prioritize energy savings project opportunities, employing quantitative utility data analysis.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Technologist diploma or University Degree. (Engineering related area and/or in environmental management, environmental science or energy and building system technology.)
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills. (Building energy including weather correction calculations and baseline adjustment, error diagnostics, measurement & verification protocols.)
  • Knowledge of greenhouse gas reporting systems. (Calculation validity, applicable protocols, inventory and boundary considerations.)
  • MS Excel. Strong MS Word skills. (Energy/utility measurement and conversion.)
  • Knowledge of utility tariff structures and utility bill generation and processing. (Energy management, with familiarity in mechanical (HVAC) systems, BAS control, metering.)

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • C.Tech / CET or member of ASET - accredited applied science, information technology, or engineering technology program or equivalent.
  • P.Eng. or member of APEGA – accredited applied science, engineering university program or equivalent.
