Nature & Scope:

The Director of Finance will ensure that financial procedures and controls are in place; and will safeguard YMCA finances and assets. The Director will deliver a high level of business partnering support to our Chief Financial Officer, working with YMCA BC’s Senior Leadership Team and Finance & ERM Committee. Responsible for overseeing and leading the Finance team, including developing and improving accounting processes to ensure streamlined month and year-end accounting closes. The Director of Finance will be responsible for leading the year-end audit.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Along with the CFO, the Director of Finance will provide staff support to the Finance & ERM Committee of the Board including preparation of agendas and developing meeting schedules; preparation of all reporting; attendance at meetings; and may act as a resource to the Committee Chair. They will provide staff support to the Investment Committee and will provide financial reporting to all YMCA BC entities including oversight of preparation of all financial reporting.
  • Oversee all financial reporting and accounting activities, including the review of monthly financial statements for all three YMCA of BC legal entities.
  • Lead and direct the year-end audit process, including coordinating regularly with external auditors.
  • Direct the analysis and implementation of new accounting standards under the ASPE NPO framework.
  • Oversee the annual budgeting and forecasting process and quarterly monitoring for all three legal entities.
  • Identifies and creates informative metrics, reports and analytics that drive business decisions and outcomes.
  • Evaluate internal controls and accounting processes and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Lead and provide mentorship to other members of the financial reporting and FP&A team (Approx 15 members)
  • Be aware of external market trends with financial matters (including technologies and market variability) and bring that information into the organization.

Qualifications/Experience:
  • 10+ years’ of progressive and relevant accounting experience within a medium to large organization
  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, or other relevant discipline a benefit
  • CPA designation
  • Prior experience in non-for-profit and working with ASPE NPO strongly preferred.
  • Analytical thinking skills combined with the ability to find creative solutions.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel
  • Proficient in utilizing other business tools such as: PowerBI, Sage Intacct or other large ERP systems.
  • Prior experience with ERP and/or FP&A systems implementations a plus

  • Strong leadership skills to motivate, coach, and mentor team members.
