The Role:
This exciting opportunity has just been added to support our continued business growth! Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Central Operations, the Director plays a critical role in executing on departmental goals including utilization, fleet (driver) service profitability, and overall costs in the Central Region. The incumbent is responsible for attracting and developing a high-performance team, operations performance and continually evaluating, building and achieving program objectives and goals. This is accomplished by effective communication, cultivation of relationships both internally and externally and providing strategic leadership, supervision and support.
The Director will:
  • Evaluate Central drivers' performance indicators to build and lead operational strategies towards short- and long-term business growth,
  • Manage Bison's fleet of equipment through the development, monitoring, and enforcement of programs involving utilization including monitoring empty miles to ensure Bison is not ineffectively planning drivers while increasing miles per truck,
  • Monitor Central Region LOS and work with other leaders to formulate relevant corrective action plans to improve service,
  • Understand traffic flows to generate freight volumes and develop strategies to meet balance goals,
  • Proactively identify planning issues and concerns, and constructively react to those that cannot be foreseen,
  • Daily communication, training, and ongoing development of working relationship with Central Operations staff,
  • Develop and manage the annual department budget including identifying and reconciling monthly variances,
  • Lead the recruitment and retention of our Operations staff as we further grow,
  • Serve as a leader and mentor to the Operations team,
  • Engage in other projects and activities as is necessary to the position and as assigned by the AVP, Central Operations.

The ideal candidate is an experienced leader who possesses excellent interpersonal skills and has the desire to mentor and lead with vision and care.
  • You have 5-8+ years of experience leading people in a managerial role in a fast-paced and dynamic business environment,
  • You have experience managing in the transportation/logistics industry,
  • You have strong communication skills: excellent verbal, written and presentation skills,
  • You have excellent leadership ability, team management, interpersonal and employee development skills,
  • You have progressive knowledge of the transportation industry including competition and trends,
  • You are energetic and you love to put your fingerprints on a business,
  • You are known for your sense of urgency and track record for strong business results,
  • You are experienced in developing recommendations and strategies to overcome challenges and establish effective go-forward plans to meet your objectives,
  • You take initiative and make independent decisions while being approachable,
  • You are a motivated leader who empowers, mentors and takes pride in their team, and
  • You have strong organizational and project management skills able to manage multiple concurrent projects.
