Dining Room Manager Job at Hy's Steakhouse

This position is key to the smooth day-to-day running of the dining room. It is a floor-driven position, which allows the Dining Room Manager (DRM) to develop strong working relationships with our staff, and excellent mutual recognition with our guests. The DRM works closely with the General Manager (GM) and the rest of the management team to ensure that the standards of Hy’s of Canada (HOC) are met or exceeded in all areas of restaurant operation. Regular one-on-one meetings with the GM, and attendance at all management and staff meetings will assist in achieving that success. Duties of the DRM include, but are not limited to:

Floor & Service Management

  • Focusing on always filling all available tables
  • Having strong working knowledge of the Open Table reservation management system and promoting same with GS team
  • Maximizing availability by ensuring all reservations regardless of size are confirmed in a timely manner
  • Setting up the floorplan and section assignments for daily service
  • Communicating with the GS team to ensure seating for reservations and walk-ins is maximized, and sharing all special plans for each shift
  • Supporting the GS team in answering the phone, greeting and seating the guests
  • Addressing all guest concerns/complaints/compliments and communicating same to GM
  • Supervising and coaching all FOH to ensure that they are meeting HOC standards of professionalism in appearance, guest relations and service
  • Liaising with Kitchen to ensure front/back cooperation and smooth food service
  • Having strong working knowledge of the Squirrel POS system and ability to operate/troubleshoot
  • Having strong working knowledge of the Open Table reservation management system and promoting same with GS team
  • Ensuring the proper cash out and punch out procedures are followed by all staff on the shift

Guest Relations

  • Being a “presence” at the door and on the floor, welcoming and appreciating our guests and setting the example for Hy’s genuine hospitality
  • Recognizing our regular guests and helping other staff to do the same
  • Focusing on creating an image for Hy’s that includes impeccable attention to detail
  • Bringing all guest-service related issues to the management table for discussion

Staff Development

  • Setting an example for all staff in professionalism, appearance, guest relations and service
  • Developing an approachable style that encourages open and respectful communication
  • Continually seeking to promote staff excellence through ongoing coaching and training sessions in all service and product knowledge related issues, and ensuring HOC SOS are always met
  • Documenting all areas of concern and bringing same to attention of GM

Communication

  • Using strong writing skills, concise language, neat presentation, good grammar, and spelling
  • Using strong listening skills, seeking to both understand and to be understood
  • Seeking excellence in all communications with guests, suppliers, industry peers and coworkers

Team and Personal Development

  • Keeping current with trends in food and beverage and sharing information with management table
  • Supporting management team in all staff-related issues
  • Maintaining positive attitude toward all staff and management
  • Representing a positive, polished personal and company image within the industry and the community

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Education Requirements:

Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Finance or Accounting is an asset

Experience Requirements

·3-5 years of fine dining restaurant experience is preferred

Technical Skills Requirements:

· Strong proficiency in inventory and cash management

· Strong food & beverage knowledge is preferred

· Proficiency with POS Systems and Open Table

Soft Skill Requirements:

· Must have a strong understanding of high-end restaurant customer service

·Must have excellent people skills

· Must be a strong leader and mentor but with a lack of ego

· Must be self-motivated and goal oriented

· Must be hands-on and have strong anticipation skills

· Must have proven organizational ability and be able to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a high-volume setting

· Must have strong verbal communication skills

· Must have proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

· Must have patience, humility and a sense of humor

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: From $62,000.00 per year
