We’re seeking a talented Controller to join and help build out Rose Rocket’s finance function and team. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the controller will be responsible for ownership of financial reporting and operations including period end close cycle, management reporting, payroll, tax compliance, and treasury.

You will join as Rose Rocket’s first full time finance team member and will play a key role in building out the finance function. You will own GAAP financial and SaaS metrics reporting, building internal controls, and managing investor and creditor reporting requirements and compliance needs. You will need to be process-oriented and possess a high attention to detail while simultaneously adapting to an early-stage, fast-evolving environment. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative attitude are essential for this role as you will be a trusted partner to the business and leadership team. Please note that we work closely with a fractional finance and accounting firm, so you won’t be starting from scratch. Instead, expect to work with and learn from our existing fractional controller and bookkeeper and in house revenue operations team to get up to speed and carve out your role in a supportive environment.

You will:

  • Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements for the parent (US) and subsidiary (Canadian)

  • Oversee the month-end close process including revenue recognition and complex accounting in accordance with GAAP

  • Oversee staff accountant/bookkeeper, primarily focused on expense booking, and review working papers/reconciliation

  • Oversee tax reporting including sales tax and matters related to nexus in the US and Canada, HST filings, SRED Tax credits and Canadian and US year-end taxes and transfer pricing

  • Canadian payroll preparation and review, inclusive of commission and bonus payouts

  • Oversee employee expense management, capital allocation and collection policies

  • Own the annual review process (in conjunction with an external auditor)

  • Treasury and banking management to ensure liquidity and optimization of balance sheet including investing and financing recommendations and execution

  • Prepare the monthly budget to actuals analysis for review and update quarterly forecasts

  • Prepare quarterly investor and board reporting including financials and SaaS KPIs

  • Working with management team and cross functional teams (HR, Rev Ops etc) on various ad-hoc finance and operations projects including pricing, business segment and cohort analysis

You have:

  • A CPA designation and at least 2-3 years of experience within a high-growth SaaS company

  • A strong understanding of GAAP and revenue recognition in SaaS-based companies

  • Demonstrable career progression in finance and accounting, with a strong bias for accuracy and driving the business

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis

  • Interest in building a finance function and managing a team

  • Strong technical skills with experience in systems integrations and various financial and ERP systems (ex. Quickbook, Mosaic, Excel, Hubspot, Chargebee)

It’s great if you have experience in:

  • Big 4 accounting experienceBachelor's degree in business, finance, or economics

  • A strong understanding and experience in operational finance

  • A successful track record of working in a fast-paced organization

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently across multiple projects and systems

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and comfort interacting with all levels of management
