Campus Mental Health Specialist

D U T I E S
The Campus Mental Health Specialist is responsible for managing the coordination and execution
of RRC Polytech’s mental health strategy (Healthy Minds Healthy College) in alignment with the
overall goals of Student Support Services and Human Resource Services. This position will play a
central role in advancing key initiatives in support of mental health, requiring broad engagement
across the College’s student and staff population and including cross-departmental relations.

R E Q U I R E D Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S
  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Psychiatric Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or Social Work.
An equivalent educational background may be considered.
  • Several years experience with mental health or rehabilitation counselling
  • Experience leading mental health promotion activities/programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental health promotion principles and strategies within a
workplace and post-secondary context
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical mental health disorders commonly seen in the post-secondary
and workplace populations as well as interventions and treatment resources
  • Counselling skills, including assessment, suicide and crisis intervention, de-escalation, safety
planning and referral
  • Demonstrated knowledge of national standards related to post-secondary and workplace
mental health
  • Excellent public speaking, facilitation, and workshop delivery skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to conduct community engagement, outreach and
consultation
  • Strong analytical and interpretive skills with the ability to synthesize information from a wide
variety of sources
  • Strong written communication skills to create website content, blogs, strategic documents,
mental health promotion literature, and training materials
  • Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning

and continuous improvement

  • Mental Health First Aid and/or safeTALK trainer certification
  • Experience conducting applied research and/or program evaluation
  • Experience working in a post-secondary environment
  • Training in project management and/or change management
C O N D I T I O N S O F E M P L O Y M E N T
  • Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
  • Incumbent must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including a
Vulnerable Persons Sector Check
  • Current Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) or willingness to acquire
  • May be required to work at various RRC campuses
  • Must be able to work on campus as required
