The British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) is currently seeking a Business Solutions co-op student/intern for the Fall 2023 work term (September to December) to provide support for Investment Operation projects related to corporate and asset class initiatives.

The Business Solutions co-op/intern will work within our Investment Operations department. This is a great opportunity for you to learn and apply your knowledge to prepare and develop department analytics, as well as a variety of continuous improvement projects.
WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH
The Business Solutions team, works with internal partners to design end-to-end business solutions on new products and strategic initiatives, provides lead support to Investment Operations’ SimCorp Dimension (SCD) business users, and oversees BCI’s relationships related to SWIFT messaging and custody.
The co-op student/intern will work under the Associate, Business Solutions in collaboration with the rest of the team and other stakeholders. Work will primarily focus on building solutions that assist the team in more effectively working on projects, with a secondary focus on day-to-day processing and monitoring.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Assist managing Ad-hoc projects and tasks as assigned by the team

Develop conceptual knowledge of trade workflows in an investment management firm

Troubleshoot and enhance existing workflows/workbooks used in daily operations
-
Build and maintain collaborative, supportive relationships with team members of Investment Operations and various departments’ key operational personnel

Develop knowledge of relevant internal systems with the department and BCI
THE IDEAL STUDENT
-
Has a passion for investment management and a drive to continually learn about financial markets and the investment lifecycle process

Is proficient in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint and Excel including the ability to use involved formulas and macros) and able to learn new technology quickly

Possesses organizing and planning skills that allow them to be highly productive and efficient; manage their own time wisely and effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks

Demonstrates strong team and communication skills; works well in team environments or independently, are proactive in sharing information and are easily accessible, approachable, and open; respond to communications promptly and effectively and escalate needed information to the appropriate person in a timely manner
REQUIRED SKILLS

A fundamental knowledge of basic business and investment-related disciplines is essential

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy, excellent product quality, and attention to detail

Has an interest in investment management, a dedication to hard work, commitment to the highest ethical standards, and an eagerness to learn

Technical skills, including prior experience/training with one or more of the following programs/languages (ordered by relevance to role):

Spend your off hours exploring beautiful Victoria and Vancouver Island

Travel: if coming to Victoria for this work term, BCI will provide a fixed-rate travel allowance based on your location

All co-ops/internships will need to be completed in person at our Victoria office. We are piloting a hybrid program whereby employees may work from home up to two days per week. Please note, some positions are not eligible for hybrid work.
