Purpose:
The Bookstore Associate, as the frontline representative of the Bookstore, provides customer service to the general public, for a variety of inquiries related to textbooks, general books as well as stationery and other merchandise offered at the bookstore. Operates the computerized cash registers, receives and displays merchandise, assists in shipping out merchandise as well as returning unsold products to publishers, and performs other related duties.

Education:
High school graduation.

Experience:
One ((1) year recent and related work experience in a campus bookstore retail environment including sales, merchandising, operating a computerized payment / inventory system, shipping and receiving merchandise and processing web orders is required. Mailroom experience is an asset.

Skills:
Demonstrated skills including:- working accurately and effectively under pressure of high volume- attending accurately to detail- customer service and dealing courteously and effectively with people- communication skills (obtaining and providing information)- lifting/moving heavy materials by hand and with a pallet truck - Basic keyboarding to use a computer terminal- Ability to use bar codes, scanners- Cash handling

Additional Notes:
Hours of work: Varying scheduled shifts within Bookstore operating hours, including regular, on-rotation, peak and rush period schedules. Overtime may be necessary during peak periods.Peak periods for this position: August / September, December / January, April / MayHours during peak periods: The incumbent may be required to work an evening shift one or two evenings per week and / or on weekends during peak periods.Vacation restriction: Last 3 weeks of August, month of September. first 2 weeks in January. first 2 weeks in May. Vacation may be restricted due to operational considerations and other approved staff absences.
