The Advisor Legal Services (ALS) is an experienced lawyer responsible for providing expertise, advice, support, and research on legal subject areas, and will be part of the Legal Standards Workstream within the IATA Legal Services department (GCCS). The ALS reports to the Director Legal Services Standards Workstream.

What your day would be like

Provides independent legal advice on diverse substantive and procedural questions of considerable complexity, which may include those related to IATA’s Core governance activities, standard setting, financial payments regulations, antitrust law, administrative law, contract law, procurement, corporate compliance through the following activities:
Prepares and provides to IATA’s business groups independent legal opinions, memoranda and information papers on questions concerning the interpretation or application of law, legal instruments, or legal principles in relation to IATA’s or airline member activities across multiple jurisdictions;
Drafts appropriate responses to correspondence and communication raising legal issues or having legal implications;
Drafts and advises on agreements, contracts, instruments, governance documents, and policies in the context of IATA's business activities;
Provides substantive legal advice in negotiations;
Responds to requests for legal assistance from clients and work assignments referred by senior members of the team;
Provides support and assistance to senior members of the team on legal issues;
Leads complex negotiations;
Participates and leads projects within the IATA Legal Services Legal Workstreams;
Peer reviews work of other team members;
Collaborates with other team members on the work of the IATA Legal Services team;
Collaborates with other team members on legal issues across the Legal Workstreams;
Develops training and guidance material for IATA staff on various legal topics;
Delivers training to IATA staff;
Drafts material on legal subjects for dissemination to airline legal members including case reviews, summaries of legal developments;
Communicates directly with IATA staff, external counsel, and airline members, leading the communication or presentations;
Maintains strong relationships with relevant external legal communities.


We would love to hear from you if

Advanced University degree in law, (LLB, JD, LLM) from an internationally recognized university;
Admission to practice law in a relevant jurisdiction, preferably the US, UK, EU member state, Canada, Australia or New Zealand;
Three to seven years post legal qualification experience in an organization, government department or law firm;
Excellent legal professional client relationship skills;
Excellent command of English;
Superior written and oral communication skills;
Effective, confident communicator and a team player;
Time management;
Demonstrates ownership of tasks, referring to senior team members for guidance;
Establishes strong team relationships;
Demonstrates initiative;
Strong legal research skills;
Committed to personal development and continued learning;
Proactively ensures their own continued professional development.
