Position: Child and Youth Worker, Assessment /Interventionist (Part Time Position)

Bridgeway Support Services, a division of Bridgeway Family Homes, is seeking highly skilled Child and Youth Care Practitioners to support an Assessment Home Foster Family, as well as the children/youths (boys; aged 10 – 18 years) that are placed in the Assessment Home in Oshawa. The children/youths may be experiencing emotional distress often caused by mental and behavioral trauma and may be dysregulated and aggressive. You will be part of an Assessment Home Team and your role will be to provide Assessment as well as Crisis Intervention and Management services.

We are looking for individuals to provide regular Assessment and Crisis Response Intervention services. The Assessment Home Workers will be providing input to the Assessment Home Family regarding the future needs of the children/youth, as they will be placed in the Assessment Home for a maximum of 6 months. Assessment Home Workers must be comfortable with these short-term placements.

We are looking for individuals to provide services between 15 - 25 hours per week with a typical part-time schedule that includes providing services during the week evenings/after school, some weekend sessions, and occasionally sessions during the day on weekdays. As previously stated, this is a part-time role, and schedules are based on our client’s needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Assessment and Crisis Intervention
  • Collaboration with Assessment Home Family and Support Team
  • Assist in pre-crisis, crisis response, and post-crisis management techniques
  • Case Notes as required

Qualifications:
  • Diploma in Child and Youth Care Practitioner or related Social Service Diploma or Degree
  • Current Crisis Intervention Certification (ie. UMAB) is an asset
  • Experienced in performing containments/restraints as an asset
  • Ability to Assess the child/youth’s needs and recommend future planning
  • Strong Verbal and Written Communication Skills
  • Excellent Organizational, Administrative skills
  • Ability to work with team members in a crisis
  • Leadership qualities

Requirements:
  • Current Police Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Welfare Record Check
  • Driver’s Abstract, Class "G" Driver’s License, and Insured Vehicle
  • Computer and personal email address
