Woodland Manager Job at Venor

Arbec Forest Products is looking for a Woodland Manager to join their team at its Miramichi mill-site location.

Reporting to the Executive Vice President, you will be responsible for the annual supply, measurement and reporting of 650,000 m3 of wood utilizing three specie sorts, exterior mill-site management, on-site handling, disposal and measurement of mill surplus biomass/residue and all wood yard wood handling including mill-feed with a contractor workforce.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Oversee compliance with company policies and standards for safety, environment, cost control, and waste reduction
  • Ensure that staff and contractors/employees are equipped with and are using the proper personal protective equipment
  • Develop, implement and maintain wood scaling procedures, scales, scaling equipment and software
  • Manage all woodlands activities relating to private and crown wood procurement contracts
  • Develop and manage exterior mill-site grounds and travel routes improvement and maintenance projects including all winter maintenance
  • Develop and manage contracts for all site wood handling and mill in-feed processes
  • Manage on-site handling of surplus biomass/residue utilizing contractor equipment.
  • Negotiate and develop contracts for transportation, private wood procurement, road construction, transportation and logging of the Company’s crown wood allocations and proper disposal of bark and waste biomass
  • Develop annual budgets and forecasts for the Woodlands Department
  • Negotiate, manage and maintain all government and industry relationships regarding wood supply
  • Active member/director of the provincial forest industry associations.

What we are looking for:

As the ideal candidate, you will have a strong background in forest operating systems and experience with support systems such as planning, finance, IT, legal, safety, environmental, quality management, human resources, public relations and formal reporting. A degree or diploma in forestry field or equivalent minimum ten years of experience in a management role within the forestry industry.

The successful candidate will be detail oriented and comfortable operating both within a team and independently. Demonstrate excellent communication skills in both verbal and written and the ability for building strong relationships with government agencies, associations, woodlot owners, etc. Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems and to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret goals, objectives, and policies.
