Transportation Planning Specialist



Position Overview
The City of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Transportation Planning Specialist. Under the general direction of the Manager of Transportation, the Transportation Planning Specialist leads a variety of medium to long range transportation planning projects, studies, and initiatives. The incumbent will act as the City’s representative for strategic large scale multi stakeholder tasks, such as City/MOTI integrated planning, inter-regional transit or regional goods movement to ensure that City goals, objectives, bylaws or policies are being met or upheld.

Qualifications
Applicants must have an advanced diploma from a recognized College or Technical Institute in Civil Engineering with specialized courses in Traffic/Transportation Engineering, and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in transportation engineering or planning, which includes a minimum of 2 years of project management. Membership in the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of BC, as an (ASCT), or the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC is required, as well as possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Additional Information
This is a unionized position. $45.68 per hour - after Probation (Jan 2022 Rate), based on a 35 hour work week. Shortlisted applicants may be required to undergo a criminal record check and/or a verification of their education credentials.
