Purpose:
To advance the Division of Students' vision as 'Partners in Student Success', the multi-incumbent Student Support Associate role delivers high quality student-facing services that are tailored to and responsive to the needs of York University's diverse student population.Under the direction of the Manager, Student Support & Advising, the Student Support Associate role responds timely to student inquiries by providing general information, referrals, and advising services across SSA areas of responsibility, including but not limited to student financial support, admissions, tuition, student records, and registration and participates as a member of the broader Student Support and Advising (SSA) team in the Office of the University Registrar (OUR) in support the execution of the Division's strategy. The Student Support Associate role works in close collaboration with students, student groups, faculty, and staff within the OUR, academic units, colleges, and across the University to provide excellent, timely and meaningful student experience throughout the student lifecycle. The role is student-focused and shares and lives the divisional values of Courage, Connection, and Empathy. These values will be demonstrated through a commitment to service excellence, as well as equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), whereby the Student Support Associate role contributes to a positive and supportive environment.

Education:
University Degree in Education, Adult Education, Higher Education, Psychology, StudentDevelopment, Counselling, or other directly related field, or an equivalent of 4 years' recentexperience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the sameor similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlinedbelow.

Experience:
Two (2) years related student services experience providing information and advice on a variety ofmatters related to academic programs, interpreting, applying, and relaying policies and legislation.Experience in advising in a student service area is required.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others including co-creating student action plans.
  • Proven coordination skills, including the ability to manage conflicting priorities, multi-task andmeet deadlines under pressure.
  • Good interpersonal skills, and effective oral communication, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Competent in online computerized student records system and excellent attention to detail and accuracy, including inputting and retrieving data, word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Strong written communication skills to convey detailed information in writing.
  • Ability to work independently to identify and accomplish key objectives within an environmentof high volume and frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and work effectively as a team member to achieve and support unit/organizational goals.
