Job Summary

The Recreation Services Specialist is an essential member of BC Parks, they bring their expertise in developing government programs, improving service delivery, and developing procurement strategies to the delivery of park operations services, including management of the services like campgrounds and day use areas, maintenance and recreational activities in BC Parks’ front country and backcountry areas.

This position’s primary responsibility is to lead and manage the provincial aspects of the service delivery model for Park Operations and the relationships that support this work. The position looks for opportunities to develop, enhance, and improve outdoor recreation and park operations in BC Parks. The intent of this work is to increase visitor satisfaction, improve financial sustainability, and ensure consistent operations across BC Parks. Building and strengthening contracting approaches is foundational to these goals.

As an RSS in the Recreation Services Section, of the Service Transformation Branch within BC Parks, you’ll be part of a team working with our partners to provide meaningful and sustainable visitor experiences in BC’s outstanding beauty, ensuring the natural environments of BC Parks flourishes far into the future.

Job Requirements:
  • A master’s degree in business administration, public administration, natural resource management or a related management degree, AND at least 1 year of related experience in program or project management, preferably in a public service setting; OR,
  • A degree, diploma or equivalent in a related field and 5 years of related experience; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training may be considered.
Related Experience must include the following:
  • Experience in concisely and persuasively writing a range of documents/content.
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
  • Research, policy development, performance review, and/or financial/economic analysis.
  • Managing procurement processes and drafting procurement documents.
  • Negotiating agreements and working collaboratively in partnership arrangements.
  • Improving operational systems and processes.
  • Working in recreation, outdoor recreation industry, and/or a park agency.

These positions can be based in any Ministry of Environment & Climate Change Strategy office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
