You are

A Social Worker, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. Reporting to the Program Manager of Community Inclusion and Support Services. Working as part of a collaborative team, this individual is responsible for providing support, counselling, and connections to internal and external resources in support of Deaf and hard of hearing client’s physical, mental, and emotional goals. This individual will primarily work with Deaf and hard of hearing adults.

Your Role

  • Provide assessment, counselling, and support services for Deaf and hard of hearing clients in support of their physical, mental, and emotional goals.
  • Provide knowledge of Deaf culture and barriers experienced by the Deaf and hard of hearing community to case managers and identified service providers to assist with increased sensitivity to the lived experience of the client.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships and relationships with Deaf and hard of hearing serving organizations and community.
  • Data management through the use of Client database, case notes, and all other related documentation. Keep accurate and up to date records and client files on client database and compile monthly statistics.
  • Maintains outreach in the Deaf and hard of hearing community, and develops partnerships with organizations, community leaders, and individuals to increase knowledge and awareness of services available to Deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
  • Provides goal-oriented support for Deaf and hard of hearing clients in the community, including assessment, counselling, referrals, and assistance in navigating internal and external community and social services.
  • Works collaboratively with other Manitoba Possible departments in providing resources and navigation for Deaf and hard of hearing clients.
  • Meets on a regular basis with the Program Manager at designated times to discuss caseload, outreach activities, professional development needs, evaluation, etc.
  • As part of a team, assist in the development, delivery, and evaluation of workshops and presentations to increase awareness about the Deaf and hard of hearing community within service organizations and other agencies as determined appropriate in consultation with the Program Manager.
  • Participates in professional development activities as required where such activity will contribute to the overall goals of the program.
  • Keeps accurate and up to date records of all outreach and client-related activities.
  • Maintains and completes monthly and annual statistical reporting requirement within specified timelines.
  • Complies with privacy and confidentiality as outlined in agency, provincial, or federal policies and/or guidelines.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures of Manitoba Possible, and any guidelines established in the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned, that support the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services area as a whole.

What You Know

  • Bachelor of Social Work with 3 to 5 years of service coordination and/or case management experience.
  • A registered member of the Manitoba College of Social Workers is required.
  • Case management experience including referral and intakes, performing assessments, service coordination, counselling, monitoring, and evaluation in a social service setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with Deaf and hard of hearing individuals, including a demonstrated knowledge of Deaf culture.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong ability to work as part of a team as well as independently.
  • Ability to work in a Microsoft environment.
  • Some evening and weekend work will be required on occasion dependent on client needs.
  • Valid Manitoba Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation that can meet time-sensitive needs.
