The Opportunity
The Senior Business Analyst will work closely with finance system stakeholders to provide technical and business analysis support for Banner and all other related systems used within the department. The Senior Business Analyst will support the Business Analyst, Team Lead in meeting complex systems and process requirements of SAIT and will provide coaching and mentoring to the Business Analysts. The Senior Business Analyst will work directly with stakeholders in the department to refine and enhance current processes and assist in the development of a technology plan for the Finance department. All work is focused on strategically and tactically developing efficient and effective systems and processes for the finance function at SAIT.
The Role
Business systems development
Be main contact for ITS and other departments for overall improvements and enhancements to configuration of Banner and the associated processes.
Support the configuration and enhancement of Ellucian Banner and all other Finance systems to support the goals and processes of the Finance department
Provide & recommend complex technical solution designs with Information Technology Services (ITS) and contribute to the design of technical solutions to support the business needs.
Represent the Finance department in discussions with ITS with respect to implementation of additional functionality and modules within Banner and integrated applications
Business Process Design and Development
Analyze complex business processes and re-engineer where applicable to ensure SAIT is optimizing efficiency and effectiveness with these processes
Ensure that recommended processes align with key internal controls
Work with other departments (Schools, Office of the Registrar, Alumni & Development, and Employee Services) to ensure Finance processes properly integrate with their processes
Help establish processes and ensure that all processes are properly documented
Business systems support
Be the key liaison with key finance and ITS contacts
Build and maintain collaborative working relationships with Finance key business owners, Banner Systems Analyst in ITS and Business Solutions Analysts in other Banner functional areas.
Manage Finance user security process and related governance structures.
Provide solutions to problems; resolve routing questions and problems and refer more complex issues to the Team Lead
Research and resolve difficult or technical problems presented by using knowledge of common problems and of department functions
Coaching & Mentoring
Coach and mentor Business Analysts in addressing Business Process re-engineering tasks and complex tasks
Responsible for the overall quality of services prepared by the Business Analysts and the overall accuracy, completeness and timeliness of reporting and analysis presented to stakeholders
Proactively identify and bring up gaps in training or lack of clarity of expectations for staff to the Team Lead
Other
Be a catalyst for change within the Finance department for business process and system changes in alignment with current strategic direction
Monitor Banner provider (Ellucian) website (Banner Hub) for releases notes and system patches while networking with other Banner User Institutions. Provide recommendations for enhancements and improvements based on this information
Solution complex business challenges based on guidance/direction from Associate Director Business Solutions or from Finance Leadership
Cover for Business Analyst, Team Lead as required
Qualifications
Minimum Required
Post-Secondary degree or diploma in IS or Business
5 or more years experience with financial systems
Advanced understanding of system analysis, ERP management, Ellucian/Banner products
Preferred
Business Analysis Certification
Project management, change management or leadership experience
Business Analyst certificate
ITIL certificate
