Intent of the process

A pool of fully or partially qualified candidates may be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions at Natural Resources Canada and in the Federal Public Service with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), to staff positions with various language requirements, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Graduation with an acceptable doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in one of the following fields: plant physiology, plant science, forestry, biology, woody plant horticulture, viticulture, botany or related science relevant to the position or the employer-approved alternative for the SE classification.

NOTE: The employer-approved alternative for the SE classification is an acceptable master's or bachelor’s degree coupled with acceptable research, training and experience. The degree must be from a recognized post-secondary institution and in scientific fields and specialties related to the duties of the position. The training and experience must clearly demonstrate the ability to do personal research of doctoral degree calibre.

Degree equivalency

Productivity/Recognition
  • A proven record of scientific publication in relevant peer-reviewed journals, published reports, books, papers, or other communications resulting from research and scientific analysis.
  • Achievement in the form of local and national and/or international recognition of research or uptake of research by forest managers or other end users.
Experience
  • Significant* research experience in plant physiology or ecophysiology or plant stress physiology.
  • Experience in designing and conducting research in one or more of the following fields: tree physiology, tree-environment interactions, tree adaptation to biotic and abiotic stresses, impact of biotic and abiotic stressors on tree growth, tree responses to environmental change, other fields related to positions related to plants or forestry.
  • Developing grant proposals; and planning and accounting for resources allocated
  • Supervising scientific support staff, students, or visiting researchers
  • Communicating approaches and results of research to technical and non-technical audiences effectively through presentations, stakeholder meetings, peer-reviewed scientific journals, books, reports, or other media

  • ”Significant experience” means a minimum of five (5) years of which three (3) years may have been acquired during doctoral training.

  • Of the methods, techniques and practices involved in conducting field, laboratory, greenhouse or growth chamber experiments.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary or large-scale projects
  • Knowledge of arboriculture, silviculture, urban forestry or tree genetics or genomics.
  • Experience working with tree seed.
  • Knowledge of data management systems.
