This is Public Health. At its core, it is about what is best for all of us, including the most vulnerable. Its aim is to maintain and improve the health of communities and populations. It crosses multiple fields of study such as health, social and human sciences to touch every aspect of our lives on a daily basis.

The School of Public Health integrates the strengths of faculty, staff, adjuncts and instructors involved in research, graduate education and various initiatives to engage communities.

Ours is a non-departmentalized faculty made up of several administrative and academic groups, including our centres and research teams. Together, these groups work to fulfill our mission to create knowledge, educate public health professionals and to advance the public's health.

Position Summary

The School of Public Health at the University of Alberta is searching for a Casual for approximately 6 months of employment, assisting with research in seniors’ health and home care.

The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Shanthi Johnson and other research assistants.

Flexible work arrangement is possible and can be discussed with the successful candidate.

Duties

The research assistant will support in the following areas under the guidance and direction of Dr. Shanthi Johnson, Professor & Dean, School of Public Health:

  • Literature review and environmental scans
  • Policy and qualitative data analysis
  • Preparing reports and manuscripts
  • Project management
  • Completing regulatory and ethics applications
  • Assisting in other research activities as needed

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree is required with a background in public health, health system research, seniors health, population health, health promotion, or related fields.
  • Experience working as a Research Assistant is required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to multi-task and address multiple simultaneous priorities in an effective, efficient manner
  • Computer proficiency in Word, PowerPoint and Excel are required; proficiency in qualitative data analysis software is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A PhD will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge/experience in public health, information technology, and related areas preferred
