A temporary full time Recreation Programmer II position is available working out of Kerry Park Recreation for the South Cowichan Recreation Division within the Community Services Department at the Cowichan Valley Regional District.

Reporting to the Programs & Marketing Coordinator, the Recreation Programmer II provides leadership in the development, implementation, supervision, evaluation, and promotion of a wide variety of recreational, social, physical, educational, and cultural programs/ services for people of all ages and abilities. The Recreation Programmer II will also serve on a team with other staff and/or community representatives towards providing responsible and quality recreational opportunities for the community. The focus of this particular temporary position is in sports such as soccer and softball.
Qualifications:
  • University degree in a related discipline to the job functions [i.e. Recreation, Recreation Administration, Leisure Studies, Outdoor/Adventure/Tourism], or a college diploma in a related discipline plus an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Three years practical experience [full time equivalent] in recreation programming with at least two years direct supervisory experience
  • Practical experience in staff supervision, marketing and recreational facility programs for people of all ages and abilities
  • Administrative and practical experience in the organization and operation of a recreation facility
  • Valid class 4 Driver’s License - Employer provided vehicle
  • WHMIS Certificate – provided by employer
  • First Aid Level 1 with CPR

Hours of Work:
The hours of work are 35 hours per week. Due to the nature of the work, it will be necessary to work a variety of shifts including days and evenings on weekdays and weekends.
Salary:
Wage rate in three steps as per the Collective Agreement between the CVRD and CUPE Local 358, $37.70 - $38.80 - $40.00 per hour (2023 rates). Benefits are included as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
