Full time: Monday-Friday 10:30-6:30pm with rotational weekends 10:30-6:30

Part time: Wednesday 10:30-6:30, weekends 10:30-6:30

Job Summary:

The Prep Cook is responsible for assisting in the preparation of delicious dishes in the kitchen. They will perform kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients, so that food can be prepared according to recipes and as outlined on the menu. The prep cook must diligent and willing to go above and beyond to ensure we are consistently exceeding our residents and guests’ expectations by aspiring to the highest professional standards, while providing a world class service in a nourishing, compassionate environment that supports the health and well-being of each of our residents.

Qualifications:

  • Must have previous experience in food preparation of therapeutic diets.
  • College Diploma, Chef or equivalent
  • Passionate about culinary arts and creative cooking
  • Must have empathy for and an understanding of the needs of the elderly.
  • Must have the ability to speak, read and write English, and to follow oral and written directions, and do arithmetic calculations.
  • Familiar with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations that apply to the work, and
  • Standing, for lengths of time, up to 3 hours maximum (1-2- hours usual), and pushing/pulling, maximum 100 lbs. as essential job functions.
  • Pushing/pulling, maximum 100 lbs. (20-50 lbs. usual) as an essential job function.
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Must be a competent person as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and other food items for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers, and a variety of other kitchen equipment.
  • Understands and complies consistently with our standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Portions food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary workstation area including tables, shelves, walls grills, broilers, fryers, pasta cookers, sauté burners, convection oven, flat top range and refrigeration equipment.
  • Uses our Standard Recipe Card for preparing all products. Do not rely on the memory.
  • Closes the kitchen properly and follows the closing checklist for kitchen stations. Assist others in closing the kitchen.
  • Assists in control of food costs and wastage.
  • Is aware and endeavors to respect and promote the Resident Rights and Responsibilities.
  • Participates in the Quality Improvement Program.
