Recruitment range: $68,897- $75,964 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

Performance range: starting salary to max of $89,609 is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

This position reports to the School of Nursing Director and is part of a team of practicum coordinators and administrative staff in the School of Nursing responsible for securing and coordinating quality practice placements for students in undergraduate and graduate programs that match curriculum learning goals and align with student’s career aspirations.

To facilitate this, position will be responsible for maintaining and building relationships with a network of resource people in various health and educational institutions across Canada to provide rich learning environments and opportunities for practicum students to grow professionally. This position also works closely with faculty teaching in the Nursing undergraduate and graduate programs, student advisors, and administrative staff.

This position may also be required to participate on internal committees, sub-committees, and ad hoc working groups. In addition, this position may participate with community groups, steering committees, and education and career fairs that promote the School within the larger community.

This position may be required to travel within the community, partner college sites, or other educational/conference opportunities to promote practice education on behalf of the School of Nursing.

Job Requirements

This position requires a Bachelor of Nursing degree with a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience. In addition, this role requires an active registration and in good standing as a registered nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) or be eligible for and commit to achieving registration. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Knowledge requirements include:

  • Managing practice placements program requests for three different program options.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and strong skills in the use of MS Office applications and experience with complex databases
  • Knowledge and awareness of trends in nursing education and health care practice environments, and innovative practice education models including Collaborative Learning Units (CLUs).

Competency requirements include:

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing the principles of truth, reconciliation and respect, equity diversity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated nursing professional experience preferably with community health and primary care nursing roles and settings.
  • Demonstrated superior communication and conflict resolution skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain productive and collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent and demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills within a fast paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Proven track record achieving cyclical practicum tasks on time and produce deliverables of a high quality, accuracy, and attention to detail each term.
  • Ability to work across organizations to address competing priorities and adapt workflow fluctuations.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and with all levels of university personnel.
  • Demonstrated administrative and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to inspire a team.
  • Understanding of and commitment to Indigenous, de-colonizing, feminist, structural, and anti-oppressive perspectives in Nursing, including the effects of colonization on Indigenous people and the impact on Indigenous students.
  • Understanding and commitment to equity and diversity.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to learn and use new technology and software programs, including experience and knowledge of various database platforms
  • Developing reports for tracking critical data for SON internal needs, other UVic departments, and practice partners in health or educational institutions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment to support the goals of this office and the School’s and University’s Strategic Plan

Assets or preferences:

  • A graduate degree in a related field.
  • Additional experience in advanced practice education and leadership roles is an asset.
  • An understanding of university registration systems, online technologies, and distance education tools.
  • Knowledge of UVic systems such as FAST, Banner, Self-Service Banner, HSD Data Apex database
  • Experience working professionally within a post-secondary environment.
