General Information

Reporting to the Engineering Manager within the Asset Management department, the successful candidates will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and responsible for providing plant engineering support to PEC and BBP as well as support for the proposal, initiation, execution, and completion of capital projects for the Atura Power assets.

The primary role for this individual will be as Plant Engineer supporting one of the two facilities.The Plant Engineer provides general troubleshooting and technical support to a wide variety of equipment issues and is the first contact for the plant to access engineering support. This role is supported by a centrally based team of system engineers that provide subject matter expertise for their systems across all of Atura Power’s assets. The Plant Engineer may also be required to take on system engineering responsibility, for support to other assets, dependent on resource demands. The successful candidate will be able to think logically, troubleshoot, collaborate closely with the operations and maintenance teams to develop solutions for issues, some of which have never been seen before

Responsibilities

- Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Respond to emergent technical issues requiring engineering support for immediate resolution
- Coordinate the delivery of engineering support to the plant as provided by our centrally based engineering team
- Design engineered solutions to solve problems for operations issues, capital projects or other corporate objectivesP
- Prepare and review calculations, design documents, and specifications, conceptual studies, designs, reports, and proposals
- Provide engineering support to plant operation and maintenance teams and troubleshoot equipment problemsInitiate comprehensive capital improvement projects that include developing clear definitions of scope, investment valuations of alternatives, cost estimates, schedules, and execution plans
- Support projects through review of engineering design documentation from equipment manufacturers and outside consulting firms including drawings, submittals, calculations, reports and other related information
- Analyze and assess equipment condition through review of field test data and other equipment-centered information systems
- Perform and direct investigative assessments, develop testing plans, perform equipment root cause failure analysis, and support equipment restoration activitiesEnsure relevant documentation is retained in accordance with company expectations including: drawings, reference manuals, and other related information
- Coordinate or direct the work of external consultants and contractors
- Coordinate Management of Change (MOC) activitiesSupport compliance-related activities as may be required by NERC, IESO, MECP, MOL, TSSA or other jurisdictional/regulatory bodies, under the guidance or direction by others
- Must have unrestricted ability to travel, on occasion, within North America
- Occasional travel to other sites.Occasional demand beyond regular scheduled hours to support outages and emerging issues
- Other related duties as required

Qualifications

For the Portlands Energy Centre Plant Engineer position – an Instrumentation and Controls/SCADA background is strongly preferred. For the Brighton Beach Power Plant Engineer position – candidates with Mechanical, Process, Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls/SCADA backgrounds will be considered

- Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to provide and present timely and relevant feedback/reporting to various stakeholdersProficient in reading and understanding mechanical discipline drawings including P& IDs, piping isometrics, general arrangements, mechanical system drawings and electrical discipline drawings including one-line diagrams and wiring diagrams
- Innovative, self-motivated, professional, and able to work without being under direct supervision and contribute in a fast-paced, multi-discipline team environment
-Possess a high level of attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good judgment and decision-making abilities
-Ability to work independently to organize, plan, coordinate, and manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously including providing daily field support
- Ability to exercise leadership without formal authority and have demonstrated leadership skills for delegation, negotiation, influencing, and consensus building to coordinate work to meet objectives

Education/Experience:

- University degree in Engineering from a program accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board or international equivalent as recognized by the Washington Accord
- P. Eng. license with Professional Engineers of Ontario or an equivalent governing body in Canada is required. Individuals eligible but not yet licensed, and enrolled in the EIT program, will also be considered.4 to 6 years of progressive relevant field experience in power generation (e.G. new installations, commissioning, operations, and/or maintenance), combined cycle and cogeneration/CHP in particular, is preferred.Experience working in a plant environment and with a variety of stakeholders including maintenance and operations personnelPrevious industrial field service experience is considered an asset
-Familiarity with Ontario Technical Standards and Safety Act and Regulations; CSA B51; ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Sections I, III, IV and VIII; ASME B31.1/B31.3; ASME PCC-1 and 2; National Board Inspection Code, API, ASHRAE and Cooling Tower Institute codes and standards are considered asset
- Experience with plant SCADA; instrumentation & controls; control systems; high-, medium and low-voltage electrical systems; protection etc. is considered an asset.Direct experience (in working environment) with IBM Maximo, AutoCAD and other modelling/simulation packages (FEA/CFD, pipe stress analysis, etc.) are considered assets
- This position requires candidates to: Have and maintain a valid G Driver's license

Job Type: Fixed term contract

Salary: $50.00-$70.00 per hour
