Job Summary

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Payroll Accountant will primarily be responsible for performing all aspects of payroll administration for the organization. This includes reviewing, and processing payroll on time, accurately and in compliance with government regulations. They will manage expenses processed through corporate credit cards and expense reports, prepare payroll-related analysis and account reconciliations, and provide reporting for both internal and external stakeholders as needed. Key Responsibilities

· Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes in pay rates

· Verifies and ensures payroll information is accurate in accordance with appropriate contracts

· Ensures accurately processing of payroll cycles in compliance with legislative requirements

· Ensures accurate and timely processing of WCB premium remittances and reconciliations

· Ensures accurate processing and remittances of all government statutory deductions

· Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions, including monthly payroll account reconciliation

· Ensures compliance with Federal and Provincial regulations and guidelines

· Responsible for providing payroll reports and related information to internal and external stakeholders

· Supports company group benefits related administration and employee deductions

· Handle all driver and office staff inquiries with professionalism and confidentiality, ensuring that each employee understands their payroll statement and or any payroll related questions

· Supports driver onboarding process by collecting pertinent payroll information, and ensuring drivers understand the payroll processes

· Assist Human Resources in their roles and responsibilities

· Entering and processing Carrier paperwork and payments

· Other duties as assigned

Education and Training

Incumbent should possess a bachelor’s degree ideally in accounting, finance or other related field. Preference would be given to individuals working towards the Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) Designation. They should have 3+ years’ experience in a similar role with experience in all payroll functions. A combination of related work experience and education may be considered. Working knowledge of payroll tax along with in depth knowledge and experience with complex payroll calculations and processing is appreciated. The successful candidate should possess proficiency with relevant accounting software (Great Plains) and have excellent computer knowledge and experience specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Any experience with TMW or MacLeod software is an asset, but not required.

Skill and Competency Requirements

The core competencies required for this position include analytical skills, a very high attention to detail and numerical accuracy, and a proven ability to work in complex spreadsheets. The ability to set priorities and juggle several projects concurrently.

The technical competencies require a high degree of attention to numerical detail and accuracy, strong proofing and editing skills, results orientated, the ability to meet stringent deadlines and time management skills.
