Part-Time Security Guards, Campus Safety

Required Position

The Part-Time Security Guards require shift work, as the University provides Security coverage twenty-four hours per day, seven days per week, year-round. Therefore, this position is designated as one that may require a different work week and hours of work.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Campus Safety, the successful candidate will:

  • provide safety and security to all staff, students and visitors on Laurentian University’s campus;
  • enforce laws and regulations on campus;
  • direct traffic and enforce traffic regulations;
  • investigate complaints, offenses and traffic accidents;
  • conduct security and fire patrols of campus buildings and grounds;
  • perform traffic and crowd control at special events;
  • supply information to the general public of a regulatory and directional nature;
  • provide first-response emergency assistance;
  • provide money escorts, collection, maintenance of machines and delivery to the Treasury Department;
  • maintain parking equipment;
  • provide monthly inspections of emergency phones, parking lots and elevators;
  • submit reports concerning assigned activities;
  • perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • college diploma preferably in Law and Security or the equivalent in related experience;
  • in possession of a current Ontario Security Guard licence;
  • in possession of a current “G” Ontario Driver’s licence in good standing
  • in possession of a driver’s abstract in good standing
  • ability to work at the Ramsey Lake location and the Laurentian Architecture Laurentienne (LAL)
  • one or two years of security or police experience;
  • good health and physical condition;
  • ability to work independently;
  • excellent written, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • valid Standard First Aid Certificate, CPR ‘C’ with defibrillator training: the University will pay for renewal if required, conditions apply;
  • ability to work fluently, orally and in writing, in both official languages, French and English.

Effective May 1, 2022 the Policy and Program on COVID-19 Vaccination are placed in abeyance.This means the Policy and Program on COVID-19 Vaccination are paused at this time; however, they are not canceled and could be reinstated at a future date if public health conditions warrant it, or through guidance from federal, provincial or local public health authorities. The evolution of the virus and the course of the disease activity are difficult to predict and it may be necessary to reinstate the Policy in full or in part, on short notice. When the Policy and Program on COVID-19 Vaccination are paused, persons entering Laurentian’s campus will no longer be required to provide proof of vaccination in order to attend campus.
