Position Description

SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Manager of Schizophrenia Outpatient Clinic, you will demonstrate comprehensive psychiatric and risk assessment skills and a commitment to recovery-oriented, evidence based care. As an Occupational Therapist, you will be providing case management services and assess, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate interventions that support client goals and facilitate recovery. You will demonstrate superb communication and relationship-building skills. You will work collaboratively and effectively with interprofessional team members with respect to clinical practice, education and research utilizing best practice guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Baccalaureate or Clinical Masters in Occupational Therapy, Masters Degree is preferred
  • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) as well as a current professional association registration (OSOT, CAOT)
  • Minimum of two years experience providing OT interventions in an outpatient mental health setting
  • Demonstrated success in clinical case management servicing individuals with schizophrenia or related psychotic disorders
  • Ability to implement a broad range of current Occupational Therapy theory, practices, treatment techniques and best practice strategies in mental health
  • Knowledge of community resources that service those diagnosed with a serious mental illness is required, and demonstrated ability to work with these partners
  • Evidence of understanding of relevant health care legislation
  • Comprehensive knowledge base of major mental disorders/ treatment modalities
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, lead and evaluate therapeutic groups based on best practice research for this target population
  • Observation, analytical, clinical reasoning skills and evaluative skills
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and responsibility and to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to plan and coordinate multiple Occupational Therapy services and other resources for clients
  • Organizational skills to identify needs and establish priorities among competing demands
  • Effective interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to provide clinical supervision and direction to assigned support staff and students
  • Research and critical appraisal skills
  • Valid drivers licence required
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Identifying targeted outcomes in partnership with the client, interprofessional team, family and /or other caregivers
  • Providing ongoing assessment, consultation, coordination, implementation, components of outreach and evaluation for clients referred by other interprofessional team members for OT specific interventions
  • Determining client's occupational performance goals through the use of standardized and non-standardized assessment tools and observation
  • Providing case management and components of outreach services to assigned caseload
  • Developing and implementing individualized and group treatment/rehabilitation plans
  • Providing clinical supervision and assigning service components to support staff; monitoring progress and providing feedback
  • Maintaining accurate clinical and statistical records
  • Maintaining any relevant OT equipment and recommending acquisition of equipment and supplies
  • Attending relevant educational activities as approved by manager/director
  • Participating in program evaluation and research
