Reporting to the Fleet Manager, this position is responsible for carrying out all aspects of the Vehicle Mechanic trade including the repair and maintenance of vehicles, tools and work equipment. Note that this is a full-time permanent opportunity and will be based out of our Victoria Street location. The position will be classified as a Vehicle Mechanic of the Collective Agreement between Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro Inc. and P.W.U. Local 1000.

Skills/Abilities/Knowledge

• Have good verbal and written communications skills and have the ability to deal with the general public in a courteous and businesslike manner
• Have an excellent health, safety and attendance record

Experience/Education

• Requires a minimum of a Grade 12 secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent
• Must have certification as a 310T Truck and Coach Technician and 310S Automotive Service Technician and have the full complement of tools required for the trade
• Knowledge and experience in the servicing and repair of vehicle air conditioning systems
• Requires a valid Class ‘D’ driver’s license with ‘Z’ Air Brake endorsement
• Preferred if one has their AC ticket or willingness to obtain

Major (Primary) Responsibilities

• Performing the duties of a licensed vehicle mechanic including hydraulic repairs and testing
• Maintaining and overhauling cars, trucks and small to medium construction equipment
• Identify stock required, requisition parts and services as required for routine and emergency maintenance activities
• Perform minor welding and repainting
• Record work activities as required, in a complete and accurate manner, including Periodic Mandatory Commercial Vehicle Inspections (PMVCI) and vehicle work orders
• Respond to emergency call-ins to perform emergency or unplanned repairs outside of normal hours
• Occasionally deliver and pick up vehicles and parts

Compensation

• Salary ranges from $23.85 to 40.51, commensurate on one’s experience
