One of the sunniest regions in BC’s Lower Mainland, Delta embraces three unique communities – Ladner, North Delta and Tsawwassen. The City of Delta is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team and share in our commitment to lead the way in public service excellence.

The City of Delta is seeking a Solid Waste Manager who is passionate about leading the City’s zero waste vision. The ideal candidate will employ creative solutions to promote sustainable practices, reduce waste and increase Delta’s recycling rates. The Manager will spearhead community engagement which may include championing new initiatives and programs, educating the community about waste reduction strategies, promoting recycling and composting, and encouraging the community to take action in their own waste reduction. These initiatives may require the candidate to think outside of the box and be open to feedback from the public and stakeholders.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Engineering, the Manager oversees the solid waste team and the City’s solid waste collection service contractor. These responsibilities include managing all aspects of the service, such as representing the City in stakeholder meetings, managing and negotiating collection contracts, managing projects and budgets, and reporting to Council.

This position requires excellent leadership and supervisory skills, demonstrated experience and proficiency in contract negotiation, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and budget management and project management experience. In addition, exceptional written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role.

Preference will be given to candidates that possess a post-secondary degree in Environmental Sciences along with 5-7 years of progressive related experience, preferably within a municipal or regional government setting. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

We offer a competitive compensation package that includes vacation that starts at 4 weeks plus up to 15 additional days of paid compensatory leave in lieu of overtime, and a full benefits package.

The City of Delta's Covid-19 Vaccination policy has been suspended, however, we reserve the right to reinstate it in response to changes in the public health landscape, including public health orders. We are committed to the protection, health, and safety of our employees and our community, and our Communicable Disease Plan and related protocols remain in place.

Interviews may occur throughout the posting period.

We thank all applicants for their interest; only those under consideration will be contacted.
Copies of relevant professional certificates, degrees, or tickets must be submitted with your application.
Preferred candidates will be required to submit a Police Information Check.
