The Position:
Immigrant Services Calgary is looking for a full-time Manager, People and Culture. As the Manager, you will have operational responsibility for the development and delivery of people policies, programs, processes, and initiatives.

You will play a key part in the organization’s continued growth and development as the leading newcomer services organization in Canada. You will be accountable for ensuring a clear direction for the People and Culture department and ensuring policies, procedures and best practices are adaptive to the organization’s evolving and growing needs.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), and working closely with colleagues from across the organization, the Manager, People and Culture will proactively develop, implement, and deliver HR policies and processes that ensure a solid foundation on which Immigrant Services Calgary can scale its organizational objectives and enhance its innovative people culture. The Manager will have two direct reports supporting the foundational HR base from which the organization will grow and evolve. The Manager will have two additional direct reports, the Payroll Administrator and Volunteer Services Lead.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of the strategy, implementation and leadership in the organizations’ people and culture policies bringing the best practice and new innovations to the organization.
  • Identifying and recommending opportunities to improve and align supporting systems.
  • Continuously developing best practices that improve team and group effectiveness and efficiencies, together with the policy and procedures that support them.
  • Proactively determining the needs of leadership and employees and developing solutions to address those needs.
  • Fostering the development of management practices, which focus on continuous improvement in process, performance management and coaching for leadership and employees at ISC.
  • Manage budget items, including budget controls and detailed analysis, as they relate to human resource initiatives in their respective areas (relating to learning and development, workforce planning etc.).
  • Upleveling of the HRIS system to produce accurate data and reporting of HR metrics.
  • Build and implement an HR roadmap to enhance the People and Culture department and organizational culture.
  • Support the People and Culture team in enhancing and streamlining the recruitment and onboarding process.
  • Developing effective and innovative policies associated with compensation, retention, succession planning, employee, and leadership development with a focus on enhancing and supporting the environment as a great place to work and learn.
  • Oversee payroll department and ensure best practices are practiced and adhered to.
  • Playing an active role in leading and supporting the work towards Imagine Canada accreditation.
  • Advise leaders on all talent related matters including employee relations and engagement, performance, benefits, organizational structure, workforce planning, inclusion and diversity, development, and policy application.
  • Championing emerging trends in human resource management, while establishing best practices and ensuring that these practices are leading edge and relevant to the organizations’ needs and objectives.
Given the role this individual will play in Immigrant Services Calgary’s continued growth and success, it is essential that the successful candidate possess the following education, experience, and personal characteristics:

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus on Human Resources, Leadership Development, or a related field; and,
  • A CHRP designation would be considered an asset.
Experience
  • At least 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience and a passion for innovation in Human Resources, ideally either in a nonprofit or professional services environment.
  • Possesses a combination of generalist and specialist experience, having gained broad exposure to most human resource disciplines.
  • Demonstrates operational capability and an understanding of the strategic direction of the organization, with the ability to convert strategic direction to operational implementation plans.
  • Proven ability to develop proactive partnerships, lead and participate effectively in teams, and leverage diverse skills of team members.
  • Experience in innovative talent acquisition and development.
  • Proven success in transitioning an organization and HR function to support operational excellence and growth; and,
  • Strong analytical skills and an ability to connect HR policy to financial processes and outcomes.
