Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for carrying out material and equipment installations, renovations, repairs and servicing in the following areas – carpentry, plumbing, heating, basic electrical, painting, ventilation, on properties, under the jurisdiction of Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Agency (NSPHA).

Primary Accountabilities

  • The incumbent is required to carry out assessment and preventative maintenance to all assigned NSPHA buildings, appliances, fixtures, utilities, and equipment in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • You will maintain buildings and grounds in clean and proper order.
  • You will report any safety issues related to contractors engaged to carry out maintenance contracts to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • You will provide recommendations regarding the replacement and acquisition of materials and equipment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 or equivalent, plus five years of experience in building and property maintenance or a related field is required. Must be able to perform standard tasks in carpentry, plumbing, heating, electrical, painting and drywall.
  • Knowledge of residential building technology, basic knowledge of National Building Code and Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Applicants must demonstrate their computer skills and ability or must demonstrate competency in desktop software including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to operate electrical tools, mechanical tools and perform physical tasks using good body mechanics.
  • Detail oriented and can analyze data and trouble shoot as required.
  • Work cooperatively with others and display a positive attitude to further the goals of the organization.
  • Ability to interact with the public and tenants in an appropriate manner on job sites.
  • Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, sound judgment and initiative when investigating, questioning, and dealing with inquiries, requests, and submissions; and
  • Possess a valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and a good driving record.

Salary: $26.71 hourly

Work Week: 35 hours for permanent and temporary positions, Relief Roster positions are on-call basis.
