Lerners is seeking an Accident Benefits Law Clerk to support William A. G. Simpson and Matthew K. Dale’s Plaintiff Personal Injury group in London. The ideal candidate will have over five (5) years of experience working in a similar position. The primary duties will include supporting the PPI practice group with running the AB portion of their files. This is a Hybrid position and requires a minimum of 2 days in office or as required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • maintaining the Statutory Accident Benefits files and special damages lists for each client
  • meeting with clients to obtain status updates and complete application forms for accident benefits
  • requesting documentation from various care providers
  • preparing LAT applications
  • managing file reviews
  • drafting correspondence
  • trial preparation
  • corresponding with OHIP for subrogated claims
  • communicating regularly via fax/ phone/ email with employers, clients (and their family members), AB adjusters, and treatment providers
  • arranging and coordinating treatment for clients (i.e. physio, OT, psychology, etc.)
  • attending client and team meetings
  • maintaining and updating AB status charts
  • submitting client experience to their insurance company and following up for same
  • preparing and filing applications for mediations and arbitrations with the License Appeal Tribunal (LAT) when disputes arise
  • assisting lawyers with settlement discussions and LAT mediations
  • paying incoming invoices related to accident benefits
  • maintaining an effective bring forward (BF) system
  • drafting briefs

Qualifications:

  • At least five (5) years of experience as an Accident Benefits Law Clerk, or as a Personal Injury/ Insurance Defence Law Clerk with robust AB experience
  • Strong organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A keen ability to work independently and as part of a fast-paced team
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Experience using Relativity, Document Management Systems would be an asset
