Reporting to the Manager of Community and Youth Development, this position will include the delivery of targeted prevention groups and services for children, youth and families. This position will include opportunities to provide programming across the Halton region as part of the prevention services team. This position will include a focus of the development and facilitation of groups for male identified youth; and creating a supportive environment for young males to explore their mental well-being.


Even though this position will involve working with children/youth of all genders, there will be an added focus on the development and facilitation of groups for male identified youth; and creating a supportive environment for young males to explore their mental well-being.


Please note that this a casual, contract position, with a planned end date of March 31st, 2024.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Prepare weekly prevention sessions using guidelines/agendas outlined by targeted prevention group manuals.
  • Plan group activities, including crafts, role playing, games, and discussions pertaining to the topic of the week.
  • Facilitate group activities (i.e., discussions, closing activities).
  • Complete weekly group documentation, including attendance records and records of individual participant progress in CaseWORKS, as required.
  • Provide an inclusive and enjoyable environment for all group participants.
  • Escalate any group concerns to the manager
  • Attend monthly supervision with the manager.
  • Operationalize client safety through adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in the delivery of quality and safe care, and by identifying and reporting any client safety incidents.
  • Abide by the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as any further health and safety responsibilities outlined in the agency’s policy and procedure documents.
  • Other duties as may reasonably be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS


Experience
:


  • Demonstrated experience in group facilitation with children and/or youth.

Skills:


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient organizational and reporting skills.
  • Creative in program development and activity planning.
  • Ability to implement and engage children/youth in group games and activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Able to work independently and contribute to a team.

Additional Requirements:


  • A current (within three months) criminal reference check with vulnerable sector search.
  • A valid CPR/First Aid certification is required.
  • Proficient in the use of technology as required of the position, including working in a virtual environment with MAC OS operating systems experience preferred.
  • A valid UMAB training certification is required.
