Ucluelet Co-op is inviting applications for the position of Food Store Manager. This is a full-time position (40 hours a week) working out of our grocery store in beautiful Ucluelet, BC.

What you’ll do:

As a member of the Ucluelet Leadership team, the Food Store Manager is responsible for the oversight and management for our Grocery, Produce, Meat, Deli, and Bakery departments. The Food Store Manager will establish short-term strategies, goals, and objectives for the store in alignment with the strategic plan. Oversee the adherence to brand and merchandising standards, marketing efforts, image standards, safety, and asset protection. Prepare, administer, and be responsible for departments achieving budgeted goals related to pricing, sales, margin, expenses, and inventory. Assign sales objectives for each department and ensure store goals are met. Hire, discipline and terminate team members and team members when necessary. Provide day to day direction and guidance, including performance management and development of team members and managers. Monitor customer satisfaction levels and identify areas for improvement. Other duties include but are not limited to:

  • To oversee, plan and manage daily operations for the grocery, deli, produce, meat and bakery departments, including inventory management.
  • Supervise and direct deli, produce, meat and bakery department managers.
  • Implement marketing programs in accordance with Ucluelet Co-op policies and procedures
  • Establish short-term strategies, goals, and objectives for the grocery, deli, produce, meat and bakery departments and ensure that they align with the strategic plan of Ucluelet Co-op.
  • Oversee the execution and delivery of the ecommerce program.
  • Provide direction and leadership to the departments to ensure a positive, highly motivated and engaged workforce.
  • Partner with department managers and or supervisors to develop team member schedules according to sales needs and the operations budget.
  • Interview and hire employees for vacant positions.
  • Ensure that all employees receive the proper training for their positions.
  • Engage in employee relations including orientation, training, discipline, recognition, and terminations for the produce, grocery, deli, meat, and bakery departments
  • Conduct performance reviews and performance management for Deli Manager, Bakery Manager, Meat Manager and Produce Manager.
  • Other duties related to the position

Qualifications:

  • High school education or equivalent, post secondary education is considered an asset.
  • Minimum two years of management experience in a retail environment.
  • Management experience in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Proven understanding of store operations, budgets, and reporting.
  • Ability to assist with the operations of the Ecommerce Program including assigning orders to clerks and completing orders as well.
  • Experienced in developing relationships with external and internal customers.
  • Experienced with coaching and providing feedback to other team members.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 programs (including Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Ability to adapt to new technology.
  • Basic receiving ordering, merchandising and math skills.
  • Leader and team player with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to physically lift, push and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to monitor and control operational costs, maximize operational efficiency and improve sales and growth margin.
  • Strong leadership skills with focus on employee engagement.
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Must have a flexible work schedule as this position requires day, night and weekend availability.
