Nature & Scope:

This partnership between the Hamilton/Burlington/Brantford and Wilfrid Laurier University is the first between a
YMCA and a university in Canada. The facility serves the diverse needs of the growing student population and local
community in downtown Brantford and will strengthen the economic, social, and cultural program offerings in the city.

The Facility Services Manager is an integral part of the Laurier Brantford YMCA leadership team, playing a leadership role in
implementing standards of service excellence to ensure the delivery of high-quality service to members. This Facility Services
Manager has a direct reporting responsibility to the General Manager of the Laurier Brantford YMCA.

This is a hands-on role responsible for the development, implementation a fully integrated cleaning plan and comprehensive
preventative maintenance program, including asset refurbishment and facility projects.
This role will also ensure that all regulatory compliance items such as Health and Safety, third-party facility contractors, and
pool operations are maintained at all times

Working Conditions
Please note that this position requires the successful incumbent to be flexible and available to work a variety of shifts
including early mornings, evenings, weekends, school breaks and holidays dependent on program needs.

The Laurier Brantford YMCA will provide all required safety training and endeavors to adapt to meet everyone’s needs to
create an inclusive environment. It should be noted that this position will require physical labour, lifting, working with a
variety of materials and working at heights, among other manual tasks which will be reviewed with the successful incumbent.

Primarily inside work, however, depending on specific situations there may be a requirement to work outdoors and/or
unfavourable conditions from time to time such as boiler room, duct/ventilation areas, confined areas, as well as conditions
involving extreme temperatures; stair climbing, extended periods standing/walking.















Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership to a Facility team comprised of 10-15 full-time and part-time staff including housekeeping and

maintenance staff to ensure a clean, safe and well-maintained facility. This includes recruitment, supervision, training,

scheduling, payroll preparation and performance evaluation

  • Develop and manage departmental operational budgets (housekeeping and maintenance). Provide input to capital and

expense budgets on an annual basis

  • Manage asset management system including work order assignment and prioritizing repair or breakdown requirements
  • Participates in front line duties and scheduled Duty Manager shifts as required
  • Implement and utilize YMCA service standards (training will be provided) throughout the Branch
  • To meet operational requirements, co-ordinate, prioritize and assign internal and external trades for repairs and

maintenance activities to be performed on equipment, building systems and exterior grounds

  • In collaboration with the General Manager and partner facility team, oversee the effective management of a new state of

the art physical asset. Specifically, this work will ensure equipment reliability, minimize down time, understanding of the

economic life cycle of assets, safety protocols, building audits to mitigate risk, and on-going compliance as required;

including oversight of selected Capital projects

  • Develop strong relationships and act as an ambassador of the YMCA and Wilfrid Laurier University with members, students,

staff, contractors, and suppliers

  • Accountability for documentation, records management, accounts payable, supplies/inventory, departmental reports, etc.

working with internal partners such as Finance

  • Maintain building automation system (BAS) and all branch mechanical systems to include seasonal transitions (including

the maintenance of boilers and cooling towers)

  • Develop and maintain standardized cleaning schedules and checklists to ensure quality standards are maintained. This will

include the use of specialized cleaning equipment

  • Maintain pool operations compliant with Public Health Regulation 565 and maintain Pool Operator’s certification
  • Ensure all health and safety standards are adhered to including Fire and Life Safety, Joint Health and Safety Committee,

Emergency Procedures and WHMIS

  • Participates in and Co-Chairs branch Health & Safety Committee
  • Works collaboratively in designated workgroups such as Health Fitness and Aquatics Facility Workgroup and Co-Owners

Facility Workgroup.

Qualifications:

  • Two Years Post-Secondary education preferably leading to the Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) designation

or equivalent is recommended along with five years building operation, proven trade experience or certification in one or

more of the following areas:

o Institutional or previous YMCA experience

o Management of cleaning staff and implementation of standard operating procedures

o Facility Management

o Certified Pool Operators is preferred

o Building Automation Systems (BAS)

o HVAC Systems

o Mechanical repairs including fitness equipment

o Electrical, plumbing, carpentry experience considered an asset










  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Working knowledge of WHMIS and Health and Safety directives
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Three years supervisory experience and budgetary management
  • Knowledge and qualification in pool operations is an asset
  • Computer literate in email and Microsoft Office 365
  • Possesses a strong work ethic and strong organizational and planning skills
  • Must provide a current criminal reference check as per the Association’s policy
